(superseeded) Linuxcnc on Linux Mint 19.3 quick and easy installation

this works:
download kernel 4.9.0-12-rt-amd64 from herehere
gdebi linux-image-4.9.0-12-rt-amd64_4.9.210-1+deb9u1_amd64.deb
edit /etc/default/grubthe line "GRUB_TIMEOUT=5" (lets you choose which kernel you like to boot)
reboot
select the newly installed kernel

Got 4.9.0-12-rt-amd64 installed, rebooted into it and am running lcnc-hw now for more than 35 minutes. So far no realtime delay. Hope it stays so.

I plan to use the dell 980s for a lathe and my ole router through parallel, so there is a base thread. for the deckel, I will use a hp 8300 cmt or sff. These will be tested with most suitable distro and kernel using just a servo thread. Once I got the hp's, sorted out which distro i wanna use, I will test the various machines and post the results here

besides: I'll redo the test on buster with the 4.9.0-12-rt-amd64 kernel too. Seems, that after setting the bios and the boot parameters about right, the kernel version seems to be the next big screw to tune. Once I found the best combo out, I will freeze it like that and do further optimisation trials on my spare pcs.

Used your fine iso that I downloaded few days agoo.

I tried apt update & apt upgrade an got following error.

Any idea ?

I think it should be sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Yes for sure as root / sudo... Was just to lazy to write

I'm in the moment trying to run the latency script. Just have to find how i can loggin on the screen as root. Via xrdp i can, but that script will correctly not run remote.
And i'm in the same time going to add another m2 ssd. So maybe i will reinstall on that in parallel ... But anyhow, all versions of upgrading should in my eyes work...

What script do you want to run?
Normally opening a terminal (xterm) and a "sudo <runthatscript>" should be possible and successful
If you want a root password, then dogreez

And actualy i started a while ago from user in a terminal as su. And now screen shows some windsurfer.... So your scripts seems to run
Was not able to follow after start as i'm heavily distracted by my dayjob..

I saw that it is not running when logged in as root. There are a few things that make problems as i installed xrdp. And the new mint and rdp is not yet very compatible.
And also Tommy dislikes windows, i do a lot of remote via rdp, from my bussiness notebook.

So hope to add some measurements too, with not at all adapted version.
