linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.img - no USB on raspberry pi 4 - 8GB & 2GB

Looks like recognised issue, may be being worked on. [ github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/3713 ]

I wanted to ask, what is the conclusion of this thread for beginners?
Will it ever be possible to use "sudo apt-get update" for RPI 4?

Is this the end for the current LinuxCNC + RPI 4?

I made a new kernel image for the newer Pi4. The kernel on the LinuxCNC repository is now that fixed kernel.

It nearly works for the Pi400 too (except no Wifi on the Pi400)

Folllow the instructions here to get a working LinuxCNC on top of a stock Buster install:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...lling_on_raspbian_10

That process works, I did it myself half an hour ago as part of my testing.

I am working on a new SD card image, but so far have only managed to make a version with no USB on _anything_ so that isn't ready yet.

I tried to find a 'stock Buster install' and only found Raspberry PI OS images.
The only image that mentions Buster is for a PC or MAC.
www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/instal...ing-images/README.md

I used an image i had earlier saved 2020-05-27-raspios-buster-full-armhf.img.

What's the name of the image you used and where is it to be found?

I used the image I had and followed the instructions at
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...lling_on_raspbian_10

but had the 'no mouse no keyboard' symptom
when i arrived at
"""
install the realtime kernel
sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.19.71-rt24-v7l+
7) Install linuxcnc (a reboot may be required prior to installing)
"""
I pre-emptively rebooted before step 7, tho I was not prompted to reboot.
After the desktop reappeared I had no mouse or keyboard ( numlock led fails )

Did I go wrong with the buster image and/or was the reboot the mistake?
thx
TomP

Hi think for the moment do not doing upgrad allow to have somehting working
if you do this will break the usb.

I used whatever the Raspberry Pi Imager uses:
www.raspberrypi.org/software/

I think that you might need a fairly new image to have USB with the newer devices.
Did you have USB after the original install?

I don't have an 8GB Pi. I do have a Pi400. The Pi400 has no USB with the old realtime kernel but does have USB with the new realtime kernel.

It is possible that you need a new Pi starting install to have the required firmware available to the new realtime kernel.
