The simplest and cheapest way is buy a small numeric keyboard, wired ones are usually around 10$.
You can also use Mesa 7i73 that wires to Mesa 7i96S and can have MPG, pots, matrix screen, buttons, etc but wiring is not easy. It uses a normal LAN cable, and it should be real time, so very responsive.
I never used other types so i can not comment further, except most use USB that is not real time so there is a short delay between pressing a button and machine actually stopping, but so far it does not seem to be an issue.

I have been slowly chipping away at this in my free time. Finally got to the point of removing the old computer. I made a mess of the wiring trying to test stuff but I ripped all that out and started over so here is where I am at. Waiting on another power supply for 12v as one of my cards needs that rather than 24v the machine provides. Only a few more wires to add then I believe I will be able to start carefully jogging the machine around. 

Difficult without seeing all your hal files so we really don't know what halpins is connected to what signal name but this:

nked -> Error "custom_postgui.hal:9: Pin 'spindle.0.speed-out' was already linked to signal 'spindle.0.speed-out'"

tells you that you have a line somewhere like this:
this will create a SIGNAL named 'spindle.0.speed-out ' to which you have connected the HALPIN named 'spindle.0.speed-out'

So you would need to change this:
to this

Note though that using halpin names for signal names is likely to create confusion.

In your hal file you have

So the signal spindle-vel-cmd-rpm can be connected to your rpm meter or you can comment out the line that pncconf made.

I don't think it's a connection or latency problem.

An output pin can only be connected to one signal, but a signal can be connected to many input pins.

You didn;t post your postgui file so can't see the actual problem to comment more.

Have you set this in the TRAJ section of the INI?

Then you should be able to use the normal way to zero the axis.

But you lose the safety pf soft limits with no fixed homing spot.

Does t3 have x or y offsets in the tool page?

Because we had problems with mach4 and our hardware wasn't compatible with linuxcnc.

Hey everyone - I have a modified taig that i am running with linuxcnc using a mesa 7i96s and a dell optiplex 7010 (i think). I am wondering what you all think is the easiest way to hook up a pendant? The only thing I care about is being able to jog the axis. I have been looking online and there seems to be so many ways to do it like daighter cards, different ifirmware, parallel ports in pci slot, but do any of you have experience on whats the most simple setup with purchasing a common pendant online?

Use an mdi command to issue the appropriate G10 command.

Not much of a dip there.
How to detect that? There are ways of course.

I'm having a weird Qtplasmac 2.9.238.315 bug where my torch goes down when it should be going up - but only during THC corrections.
Normal Z axis movement is OK as it should, with homing, probing, etc.

THC is being used from voltage (THCAD-2) and arc OK signal is present. 

I tried reversing the Voltage Scale (from 0.009 to -0.009) and no changes. - it still is correcting in the reverse way. how weird is it!

Where could i start?

Got that... i just created the signal.name Spindel.rpm which is linked to gladevcp.Spindel.
There is still my problem where to get the float.out(?) from and link it to Spindel.rpm. My "favorite" spindle.0.speed-out is already linked -> Error "custom_postgui.hal:9: Pin 'spindle.0.speed-out' was already linked to signal 'spindle.0.speed-out'"
