Determining Angular Scale - Help w/ Microsteps

Friends,

from what I can only assume is inconsistencies in diameter or something but 533.33 is the number.

with 533 after 20+ revolutions you can see the starting point creep earlier -- indicating its just short of the number of steps to complete a full circle.

with 534 after 20+ it goes the opposite way.

I have a few follow up questions:

- what should i have the dip switches set to? Now that we've figured out they don't do anything to effect the steps per revolution is there an optimal value for this? I dont need insane amounts of torque or rpms

- is this something i can easily fix with the encoder once i do move to LCNC and tune in the encoder error?

thanks all for sanity checking me thus far, nice to know im not 100% crazy.

I found something here, it's not easy to follow so many different cards and so many different topics in a discussion, it's even hard to find them!

Yes i meant the RPI required part.
I got fed up with RPI, first when i bought 3 and found out they are utterly underpowered and require huge amounts of time to get anything working on them (this was back in the RPI3B era), and got disgusted by youtubers shoveling them as the only option to run Klipper/3D printers during the pandemic when the price got to over 180$ !!! Second hand laptops are much cheaper and much more powerful, and can easily run Klipper.

Certainly possible but likely needs a hardware specific driver,
perhaps the RPI GPIO driver could be used as an example.

Here is a 7I95T+7I77 configuration
I numbered the encoders and sserial ports to match
a simple 7I77 configuration, so say a 7i92+7i77
configuration can be used with just a card name change
(from 7i92 to 7i95)

All 7I95T I/O is also supported but you would probably
need to create a separate 7I95T configuration and merge hal
files to support the I/O and step/dir channels

correct, thank you.

I wanted a closed loop belt for a lot of reasons. Its next to impossible to get on a closed loop belt without some sort of tensioning device.

I am with you on avoiding complexity, this is the third rev of this cutting head for that exact reason.

Hi @PCW

currently the machine (old Plasma) uses analog servo motors, that's why I added the 7i77. I need 10v/-10v for the Axis.
i am not entirely sure if I add encoders to the board in the future. at the moment they are hooked up to the servo drives.

my thoughts where, If at some point something breaks, and I add a more modern motor to some axis I can handle this with the 7i95T in the future.... that's why its kind of redundant(analog and step/dir).
also I don't know if everything on this machine is really working. its kind of "dead in the corner" for years, and we try to give it a second live. :)

is it possible to have all ports of all cards at the same time present?
or do I have to choose between?

....successfully got my pi5 running with LinuxCNC 2.10 (which I read is required to run a 7i95T).

Where did you read that?

I meant 2.10, not the pi ;)
what's wrong about the pi's?
for me right now the pi is just handy, because I have it here. maybe I change it to a miniPC at some point... I am not sure... but first I need to get a working cards/hal/ini

That is a single belt in that drawing, it just shows where it would be when tightened completely.
And he already mentioned he is using a single belt...

I received this board and wanted to insert the remora firmware via segger jtag v8, but I can't find a guide for my model. Where can I find it?
Thanks

You _do_ need specific firmware for the 7I80DB with 7I76+7I85 daughtercards
If you have this, any serial card is supported.

In case you do not have 7I80DB 7I76_7I85 firmware, here it is:

No, sorry i should've explain it better. Its just one belt.

The reason there are two loops; i only had a few closed loop belt size (length) options off the shelf from amazon, i needed to make sure the tensioner i was designing could make putting one of those belts on easier. So you'll see a one 'loop' goes around the interior most path and the opposite it true for the outer path.

Its one belt around three components, motor, driveshaft, tensioner. i attached a smaller slice, hopefully my rambles make sense.

Ok if the card doesn't need any specific firmware, then it's fine, I already have the bit file for the other cards. Is there some specific settings i should add to the hal/ini files for it to work?
