7i73 input 0-7 i cant'use

Category: Basic Configuration

Inputs 0..7 on the 7I73 have no pullups/pulldowns
so these must be added externally if used with
single throw switches.

OK, So I think I managed to configure some GPIOs (more or less) successfully using official Rpi5 img, (Thanks for the guidance, unkonwn)

Now my problem is that I can't manage to get the WiFi working and I sorely need it for development. I'm pretty sure I ran some older release that had it working (with network-manager) out of the box but network-manager does not seem to be installed by default in this version.

What I tried is apt-get install network-manager and after that I reboot and launch the terminal based GUI with 'nmtui'. In here (in previous versions) I used to see a list of SSIDs to connect to but now the list is empty. I'm guessing that there might be an issue with some driver or similar and that no WiFi chip is recognized but I don't have the knowledge to check. Has anyone else got their WiFi up and running on the latest Rpi5 image?

The 5v limits switches, (connected to the 7i77 spare encoder terminals QA3,QB3,IDX3 etc), are registering in linuxcnc randomly. Even though the machine is parked mid stroke, the Y axis min is always true, and I can trigger the X max with a wrench from false to true, but it stays that way with the wrench removed.
Looking at the original control there is a 470ohm resistor to 5v holding the signal to the MUX chip high, and when the limit is triggered, this gets grounded.
Do I need to do something else electrically to gets this working?
Thanks

7i73 input 0-7 i cant'use

Category: Basic Configuration

Hi everyone, I have a 7i96s and a 7i73, until now I have used the 3 analog inputs of the 7i73 (in 0,1,2,3- pin 3,4,5,6) to use them with 3 potentiometers but they are not stable and I have not continued to use them. I would like to understand if they can be used as standard inputs because I have to move 4 external buttons to recover the 6 encoder inputs for the potentiometers. My problem is that I see them as inputs in halshow but I can't use them, I can use from in8 up. I certainly wrote something in the HAL to enable the analog inputs but I haven't solved anything for 2 days to get them working as standard inputs again. It's been more than 1 year since I changed the hal file and being a beginner I don't remember... Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Try (note the difference in the L-word)
g10 l20 p1 x0 y0 z0.

L2 sets the offset values themself to 0
L20 sets the offset values so the current coordinate is 0

Yes, spindle control is the typical use of the 7I96S analog output.

If by daughtercard you mean the 7I84U, any firmware with a sserial port will do.

(basically and 7I96S firmware that does not use the serial expansion for modbus etc)

Thank you Tommy.  PCW, is analog out controlling spindle RPM?  If that is the case then I will need the 7i96s.

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Iv just bought another EC500 to convert to Remora firmware. I have a cnc mill converted with a breakout parallel board and axis GUI.

I'm going to replace the BOB and convert it to the EC500. Will Remora firmware work with the probe basic gui?

7i95T + 7i78 spindle configuration

Category: Basic Configuration

The (active low) analog enable on the 7I78 is
DB25 pin 6 (7I78 manual) = GPIO50 on that firmware.

So the hal file needs:

setp hm2_7i95.0.gpio.050.is_output
setp hm2_7i95.0.gpio.050.invert_output
net spindle-on => hm2_7i95.0.gpio.050.out

likewise, the direction pin is GPIO 51 so:

setp hm2_7i95.0.gpio.051.is_output
and GPIO 51 needs to be netted to the spindle direction signal
(and may need inversion depending on how it controls the VFD)

Its probably arguable that the firmware should have PWM enable
rather than GPIO control the 7I78s analog enable pin...

Increase A axis speed, but maintain proper scale?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I saw your Amazon review and tracked you down here, What is the little cheap controller that you were able to make work with the axis?

Edit: for those from the future

Coordinate system and touch off

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi a beginner question. So I setup my cnc and I want to do a first test run. I use freecad as CAD and CAM programm. In freecad I set my origin on one of the upper corners. Then I create the toolpath. But I get exceeding limit error in linuxcnc. My machine limits are x-10  to 2000, y-10 to 1000 and z0 to -150. So my procedure is I move the tip of the endmill to the corner of the workpiece. Which is lets say in machine coordinates at x100 y100 and z-20. Then I send g10 l2 p1 x0 y0 z0. My understanding was that this sets the coordinate system 1 to zero. Then I start my program which begins with

G1 X57.000 Y4.000 Z-5.000 F120.000

But I get an error at G0 Z6.000 already. So what am I missing here? In machine coordinates I would still have the space to move 6mm up.

Z Homing

Category: Basic Configuration

Thank you.

It all does happen fast, you'll see i had to move X (joint 0) way out so I could observe Z (joint 3) which errors out at 0.114

I swore i tried inverting that sign because i had the same idea. However, it didn't change the z motor going in the wrong direction after. I will try again here in an hour or so and update.

Also reading 6.3 here (linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/config/ini-homing.html) that value must be positive. Even though it didn't throw an error when i tried. I imagine it just take the absolute value of that number? It seems like i have to invert almost everything.
