The only reason I asked about the CPU frequency is that the tmax values are in CPU clocks
(on X86 hardware). Knowing the CPU frequency allows the times to be calculated.

I have installed: 8168 driver

When I enter this in the terminal:
cpufreq-info | grep "current policy"

I get this:
current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 3.20 GHz.

I cannot change to a constant 3.20 GHz.

Employment opportunities in Germany from EU

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

For anyone looking for a job in EU, i was contacted by this company a few days back
www.cnc-experts.eu
They are looking for CNC operators, CAM, design, anything related to CNC, more info on their website, to work in Germany.
I did fill an online form and the very next day i got a call from them on the phone (not skype nor zoom nor any of that BS, plain mobile phone) by a real human with real questions, proving they are serious company from what i could gather. And the person was quite disappointed when i told her i can not move to Germany right now due to family issues.
They also have a public database of candidates with no personal info so you can browse through.
-
Anyone who applies, please do report back with the experience, so i can decide to keep or remove this.
Thank you.

LinuxCNC must not have been running when you ran halcmd show all *.tmax
otherwise it should have show a set of parameters like:

Parameters:
Owner   Type  Dir         Value  Name
    33  s32   RW              0  hm2_7i76e.0.read-request.tmax
    33  s32   RW        1159140  hm2_7i76e.0.read.tmax
    33  s32   RW         270636  hm2_7i76e.0.write.tmax
    23  s32   RW          45260  motion-command-handler.tmax
    23  s32   RW         942716  motion-controller.tmax
    27  s32   RW         233832  pid.0.do-pid-calcs.tmax
    27  s32   RW         246480  pid.1.do-pid-calcs.tmax
    27  s32   RW          21700  pid.2.do-pid-calcs.tmax
    27  s32   RW          20144  pid.3.do-pid-calcs.tmax
    24  s32   RW        1564056  servo-thread.tmax

and yes, RealTek Network interfaces have issue with real time when using the stock
Linux kernel driver, the suggested  fix is to install the DKMS 8168 driver.

This affects any Ethernet or EtherCAT connected device that use the standard RealTek in kernel driver.

Axis configuration not fully working on 2.9.6

Category: AXIS

Hey,
@ChrisB_II thanks for the explanation and the link you posted. I looked at the documentation and a youtube video about building linuxcnc and even though it seems doable, I don't think I am comfy going down that route. :D

@andypugh How do I go about installing the .deb file? Update to 2.9.6 and then just run the command you posted?

Heres where im at with the project, I got the most of the machine wired up, and had it "functioning" the hydraulic that actuates the back and forth of the shuttle is leaking threw and slowly pushes forward when idle aswell as makes a big mess of my floor. When the machine trys to shuttle forward it like jumps back and forth intill it hits the spot it needs to be on the linear encoder then slowly seeps forward. I had a feeling this would be a problem. Am I crazy to try to pair a encoder to a hydraulic and expect it to acurately position? Or would this problem be solved by fixing the leaking hydraulic and maybe a new solenoid valve. Is there any examples of somebody doing similar, controling a hydraulic accurately with a linear encoder. or do i scrap the hydraulic system, only keep it for clamping and to push the blade forward. Replacing the hydraulic with a heavy duty servo motor and ball screw.

My PC uses a Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 network card, integrated into the Gigabyte motherboard.

Does this network card model cause problems with Mesa?

THC qtplasmac 2.9 is moving UP when it should be moving DOWN

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

To add to what Tommy said ...

From: linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/plasma/qtpl...ml#plasma:z-settings

[AXIS_Z] MIN_LIMIT should be just below top of the slats with allowances for float_switch_travel and over travel tolerance. For example, if the user’s float switch takes 4 mm (0.157") to activate then set the Z minimum to 5 mm (0.2") plus an allowance for overrun (either calculated using the equation below or allow 5 mm (0.2") below the lowest slat).

[AXIS_Z] MAX_LIMIT should be the highest the user wants the Z axis to travel (it must not be lower than Z HOME_OFFSET).

[AXIS_Z] HOME should be set to be approximately 5 mm-10 mm (0.2"-0.4") below the maximum limit.

There's a nice diagram there too.

Is there a new Linuxcnc release in the wings ?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

But Andy does have a good point, doesn't he? It would be much better if this was fixed in the official linuxcnc distribution.
Perhaps you can open an issue at linuxcnc github and see it you can get your fixes incorporated?

You mean propellers?
Pretty damn well, none have disintegrated so far and mostly the smaller ones stay intact when bumping into something while spinning, it takes a bit of effort to break them, and that is mostly due to printing direction.
Also i do not use PLA, ABS, HIPS, PETG, and lately PA6 Nylon.
The main issue are sanding them properly will improve efficiency a lot, and balancing them is a must sometimes.
Give it a try, you will be surprised how good they can be, just keep layer line longitudinally.

It could be done. It's probably how I would do it if I had to control an injection moulding machine, but only because I already know how to use LinuxCNC.
(when your only tool is a hammer....)

Getting temperature into LinuxCNC HAL is not the easiest thing. One option is:

First such machine i fixed was back in 1990 !!!
They are complicated machines, but all are made from simple parts, so look at it as separate parts, makes it much easier.
The main hurdle with retrofitting such machines is the logic and interlocks, writing down whatever you already know will help a lot during programing.
