Yes, I have tested OnShape at the time when everything was free and you could choose which objects would be public, many years ago now.
Can use as a doodle to figure out a geometric problem/puzzle, but not something I would use for my hobby, where I want my source files with me and not public, so for that reason I rarely log into OnShape.
The FreeCAD gang should have a platinum medal for all the work they do, at the moment the CAM part is the one that appeals to me most there.

So it's not just jumping over to Linux and Mac doesn't appeal to me.
The day Alibre Design and the software to connect the 3D scanners to get the data is in Linux, then I can switch away from Windows.

Have you looked at onshape? Browser driven but no CAM. Free if you share your parts

rodw Do you still use Fusion 360? If not what are you using now?

Yes, sneaky buggers charged my card on the renewal. Wasn't planning to.
I've only done one job in the last 12 months......
All my parts are sheetmetal and laser cut these days (or made in India or China), inserted about 300 nutserts today. Thank god I have a pneumatic tool!

Thank for answers.
Any chance of adding these pan and G54 buttons to this screenset?
About the REF button. The drop down menu of this button is good for mouse, but very not convenient for touchscreen. So I want to try to modify the GUI a little bit for great convenience. Ideally to be able to get by with only one touchscreen without keyboard or mouse. I have a project for a small desktop 5-axis machine and it would look great with only one touchscreen monitor, no physical buttons or keyboard/mouse.

The dumification of humanity through internet

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

For more de-dummification:
Silicon is a natural chemical element (Si Atomic Number 14, a hard, brittle crystalline solid), silicone is a man-made product. The words are often used interchangeably but there are important differences. Whilst silicon is natural, silicone is a man-made polymer derived from silicon.

So you are still working on this? Great to see.

There can be a few reasons behind this.
Let's think. The motion component generates the wanted position in joint.0.motor-pos-cmd, sends that off to the EtherCAT device and receives the actual position, as the stepper driver sees it, in joint.0.motor-pos-fb. The difference between them is the following error. Which also happens to be available as joint.0.f-error.
I am thinking along the lines of either a scaling issue or you are asking the stepper driver to make steps at a higher rate than it can generate.

Let's first verify the behavior of the following error. Start halscope and record the signals joint.0.motor-pos-cmd, joint.0.motor-pos-fb and joint.0.f-error when you run the axis at below the critical speed and above the critical speed. One wants to see how those signals develop up to and including the following error stop. If you post screen dumps of halscope for those two situations I can help to take next step.

Probe Basic Tool Setter questions

Category: QtPyVCP

I am able to probe my work with the Hallmark probe, in the spindle,  and I have an amazon toolsetter wired in as well (it is set on the corner of the mill table). They both trigger the probe input just fine. I followed a couple videos that showed how to touch off the spindle nose from the toolsetter and I was able to get a value and enter that for spindle zero. The next step in the videos is to insert a tool, set toolsetter coordinates (with z all the way up, 16 inches in my case as it is set 0 at bottom of travel and 16 at top home switch) and then touch off the tool. When that is done in the videos, the z moves down at the rate set in probing and it enters the tool length into the tool table. My machine moved down at a very high speed, 100 ipm. When I push the toolsetter with my finger, it gives an error, probe tripped during non probe move. I'm not willing to let the tool come down that fast to see what would happen. It seems something is off just by the rate the head drops. Changing the speed makes no difference, unless I set rapid to 0, then it says it can't make the move. What DOES change the speed is moving the V slider down from 100%. Still, pressing the toolsetter while it is moving slower just gives the same error. Maybe something is off in the hal file and it isn't realizing that is the toolsetter.

Right now, I'm tired and am new to getting this all setup and I also don't understand all the work offsets. I can get more data or a video to share if needed, so someone can better follow along with the problem I'm having. It has been challenging to find much in the way of videos or information on setting up and actually using Probe Basic.

PM833TV mill
clearpath servos
7i96s board and 7i84 expansion board
the hallmark probe and toolsetter are both normally closed and wired to different inputs, but they are tied together with an or string in hal, so I must have both connected at the same time. They both turn on the probe light on the probing screen.

I do not know if everything I need in the probe basic conversion actually transfered over. Some of the conversational pages are blank. It only has facing and hole drilling. I went into the simulation again to see what it includes and it matches what I have. Perhaps something else is off with the conversion and that is part of the problem with trying the toolsetter.

I am using the TTS tormach tool system but want to machine o ring grooves in cylinders to build my power drawbar, so am manually changing tools. My goal is to get one or two tools to work so I can machine a simple circular groove in those parts and face (manually if needed) them to mate up properly. I did the first Titans of CNC video on fusion 360 cad and watched the video on cam. I have only run the machine manually and am learning how to get it setup to run a part.

The other thing I have not quite figured out is how to set the length of my Hallmark probe, or more accurately, how to determine it's length so I can set it......other than trying to use calipers. I don't have a granite plate and caliper setup for measuring tool length.

Maybe someone knows why z rapids down and is not using the probe parameters for speed that I set at something like 10 ipm rapid and 1 ipm slow, or has a link for more info. Does anyone have a link for a good explanation of all the different offsets........anything to become more familiar with what is on the probe basic pages? Any help would be appreciated......let me know what info I should add.

Thanks

Chinese Servo Drive Calibration XP200

Category: Milling Machines

Hi,

Apologies for hijacking this thread.

I have one of these XP200 drives that I'm about to start using for a project, I want to use it in speed mode, so set it to a certain RPM and have it try to maintain that RPM under varying load.

What's the easiest way to set it up in speed mode without a computer (I might add a computer later), I was envisioning connecting up a potentiometer but I'm guessing it's probably not going to be that easy, as this thread is saying I need to supply 24v to enable it or is that only for STEP/DIR?

Thanks!

how to run PCIe Parallel Port in mode x with 9 inputs?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I have this
forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/54368-pci...ut-of-the-box#313942
I can do some tests whenever i get to the shop and report back.
All built in parallel ports that i have tested worked in X mode, all were on used "enterprise" PC's from Dell, HP, Lenovo and Fujitsu.
Also did test one of the PCI cards in X mode and it worked with the above mentioned issue that it did require a bit more current to trigger, not sure of the exact one as i had over 10 versions.

Fusion 360 Win 10 EOL

Category: CAD CAM

Well it's official January 2026 Autodesk Fusion 360 will no longer support Windows 10 . Either switch
to Windows 11 or you can no longer use fusion 360.

I think I've got a solution that won't entirely suck: Win 11 Enterprise LTSC

No AI, no features updates, no bloat, no MS store.  10 years of security updates.

I've been running W10 LTSC for a few years and it's what Windoze should be.  Fast, clean, no garbage, no crashes, no surprises after an update.  I bought a 5-pack of Win10LTSC licenses in 2020 and have had no issues on any of the installations.

CDW has a license for $200, but pckeys.uk has them for around 40 UK bongo-bucks and they get cheaper for multi-packs if you have a few PC's to do.

I don't know the difference between Enterprise LTSC, Enterprise N LTSC, and IOT Enterprise LTSC, but I know IOT allows you to remove a bunch of software/services during install.

I'll be doing some more research to pick a flavor, but this is the route I'm taking for those of us who need to remain on Win for F360 and other reasons.

Unknown which cards work in that mode, if any at all are made with O\C outputs any more.

If you need extra inputs you may be able to buy a PCIE card with 2 Parallel Ports. Tho I could only find PCI cards.

You may have to realise that you may not be able to do what you want.

how to run PCIe Parallel Port in mode x with 9 inputs?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Doesnt work with 100ohm resistors as well. I even tried shorting the out pin 16 to ground but there is no state change. , the default 10,11,12,13,15 input pins change state when shorted to ground on my parallel port card. And remain high as a default. Does this say anything?

Also i request you to please suggest me a suitable pcie parallel port card that is able to work in x mode
