4th axis build - Can I use Mitsubishi Servo Motor HF-SP102 (1kw) via SSCNET-III

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I’m in the process of building a 4th axis for my linuxcnc mill.  My Mill is a Matsura MC-500 and is based on MESA boards via ethernet and QT dragon w/Linux 2.9.
I’ve aquired for cheap two new HF-SP-102 motor (1KW) with high load and high precision harmonic drives from "Harmonic Drive LLC" that are integrated (but can be separated) for $25/each, I then found the servo driver for it MR-J3-100B amp on ebay, and got the cables to connect it for a few hundred.
I’m now trying to work out how to connect it to the PC and drive it but it doesn;t seem that straight forward as the servo driver support SCNET-III.  I saw some posts and links to Dimitry's site(www.yurtaev.com/), but my PC is an all in one touch screen and I;m not sure it has PCI slot.
I perhaps I could get a MR-J3-100A driver as it uses a 'general' interface (not SCNET-III)

I probably got a bit excited with the cheap motors and gear boxes and just assumed it would be straight forward to get the electricals working (oops).  What do you think is the best way forward?  Buy a card from Dimitry and a new PC and touchscreen, or should I get a different path that is supported by the MESA boards and non PCI ie buy a different motor+servo and make the adapters to the Harmonic reducer units I have.

Cheers,
Cam

Hi Hakan, thank you for the informations,

during the servo configuration there are a lot of parameter to tweak, are there any parameter that can fry the driver/motor?

Help Needed: Z-Axis Linear Guide Vibrations at Specific Speeds

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Currently the step setting is 1000 and i tried 800, 25600 and 12800 (yes i changed scale accordingly) no major change and the best setting was 1000 imo.

It is vibrating alot after a certain point on the axis and if i just support the load on it is completely fine.

and the main thing is on going up there is no vibration at all.

The pitch of the linear actuator is 50mm.

You had calls don't match the file names, it won't fine the hall with an incorrect name, post gui is also wrong name.

hahaha

These things happen.

We're making some headway towards getting a 6.12 kernel going with rod's image builder.
But despite what the recent skuttlebutt suggests for arm platforms it seems that some patches are still required for realtime.

"Coherent replies" this was the word i was looking for when making the first post. :)
Oh well...
-

Not sure what prompted the post but gonna jump in and lend another thanks as well for your help (last year?) with that plasma cutting....

It was prompted by his continued support to members of this forum, coherent replies (YAYYYY), and the time and effort he puts on this forum with help and posting about his projects.
There are many members here who absolutely deserve respect for everything they do for this community and this project, but i refrain from listing them as i am sure i might forget someone, and that would be unforgivable.
As for the "old" members, They deserve a "Mount Rushmore" type of monument for first and foremost being amazing humans, putting up with all kinds of cr@p we do here, pointing out our mistakes in a very nice and polite way, never getting tired of our silly questions and even sillier follow ups to their replies, and providing us with a world of knowledge that we sometimes take for granted - we should not!
I came here for the code as i absolutely fell in love with HAL the first time i opened a hal file, but i sure as hell stayed because of the people, namely PCW, Andy, Todd, Chris Morley, JT, Mozes, Chris Radek (i think), and later Grotius, RodW, CliveS, PhilC, SnowGoer, TheFabricator, my1987toyota, Joco, and lately Aciera, Spumco, Maha, CakeSlob, ScotA, . Who did i forget? :)
I have also talked on the phone with some of them, several times, Clive came here to visit me, so i do consider them close personal friends, and this single-handedly has kept me from going ballistics on many occasions, as i might have mentioned before, i was a very aggressive piece of s#it a few years back.
And it has taught me to write as the only thing i wrote before this was "po", "jo", "OK" ! Meaning yes, no and OK :)
Sorry to whoever i forgot, it is almost 5AM here...
Also thank you to all the rest i did not mention here (yes that includes you Blazini) for making this forum a very nice place to be in.

Jog not working on new install

Category: Plasmac

I am using QtPlasmac on a new install.
Am using a card called the weenyPRU as seen here github.com/iforce2d/weenyPRU/tree/main

I started by using gmoccapy (as I am familiar with it) and then realised that the PlasmaC was deprecated in 2.9.
In gmoccapy I got homing and jogging working, so stopped there

HI then ran stepconf and created a qtPlasmac config and removed the parport/stepgen and merged what I think is correct for qtplasmac

I can currently home the machine, but when I jog it no stepping occurs. The screen update works ok for the axis position in both the graphical view and the axis position view.

Obviously missing some net connections but cannot see what.

Version is 2.9.1

Remap argspec in stdglue.py

Category: Advanced Configuration

After changing assignment of P Q and R to different parameter(value range), and changing argspec to captal letters, it seems to work now and stdglue.py is reverted to original.

It is about a new cycle, using a small ballhead mill, following a conical spiral to do countersink with good surface quality

I have made a mistake. I thought the kit I bought gave no *physical^ access to the SD card. But, it does.
My apologies for the trouble and misunderstanding.

Arduino IO Expansion

Category: Show Your Stuff

So an interesting thing happened last night......

I was watching something on Youtube and someone mentioned ChatGPT, which reminded me how I joke with a friend that his code sometimes looks like ChatGPT wrote it.

So then It dawned on me that I should peg ChatGPT about adding the I2C IO to Arduino Connector. I'd never used ChatGPT before but I figured why not......

A couple hours later I have  the MCP23017s all working as inputs/outputs within Arduino Connector......

I was pretty blown away by how that turned out.
