QTDesigner PATH issue

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

That's all that was returned. The GUI started but, without the Linuxcnc plugins.

It appears as if the ICONPATH either defaults to NONE or has been defined as NONE.
The frozen posixpath is referring to the built-in OS lib.

Should this line be:
ICONPATH = os.path.join(INFO.LIB_PATH, 'images/probe_icons')

instead of:
 ICONPATH = os.path.join(PATH.find_image_path(), 'probe_icons')

I just haven't had time to fully test. I'll look into it later the afternoon if I get a chance.

Ah, yes, sorry. I got this used from tivoi :)

I'm gonna start reconfiguring my wiring and mesa cards tonight.

Also trying to map out my air system.

- spindle release/taper clean
- spindle nose bearing purge
- MQL coolant
- air blast
- laser tool setter clean out

Hmmm.

Wonder how to arrange that.

Ethercat, EL6751 and CANOpen

Category: EtherCAT

After a long break, I am trying to get the EL6751 up and running. However, I am already failing to get the terminal into the Run status without a bus error.
I have currently tried to configure the terminal with Twincat (the terminal is running in Twincat).
Saving the configuration in the terminal and starting lcnc without initcmds leads to status OP but BusOff. Mapping the first PDO (1600) EL6751 is stuck in Preop.
Starting with exported initcmds lead to the status Preop. It seems that the SDO download is not possible for reasons unknown to me.

Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem?

lol OK, here's a summary of the conversation:

Me "hey you're wrong about this serial thing"
You: "Oh yeah well you're a fascist......and an NPC.

This is pretty embarrassing.

It seems you got the wrong end of the stick. This was my statement.

This is kind of going off the rails now. I quite happy to not totally agree with you but also not think you are a fascist.

I did agree to not agree, was happy to do so.

I don't know how saying "not think you are a fascist" is calling you fascist. I would think it means the complete opposite.

Now the NPC comment was not right, but then again suggesting someone may have a mental issue was wrong as well. Yes that was childish on my behalf. [joke]But then again you stated it.[/joke]

For the sake of harmony I unconditionally withdraw the NPC statement, I'm kind of impressed you're aware of the term.

I would also implore you to reread the portion of text where you incorrectly thought I called you a fascist. It was half meant as a bit of levity and half meant to see what reaction you would have. Unfortunately you reacted as many others have on previous occasions, you see one word and pay no attention to the words before & after. In all reality resorting to calling someone a fascist to a very minor disagreement is way over the top. Furthermore it would be an incorrect use of the word. To think that you ,quoting definition of a fascist, ie: political philosophy characterized by authoritarian views and a strong central government, would be the greatest of leaps. You mentioned no hard adherence to authoritarian views nor support of a strong central government.

There isn't a stepconf or pncconf equivalent for ethercat so what I do is to configure the machine using one of these tools and then replace the connection to hardware. Editing by hand. Can be a bit of a handful for a first tine linuxcnc project.
Here is what other people do, including a link to rodw's example ethercat config. forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/51016-what-d...recommended-hardware

Gentoo Image, Which Applications are in and Which are Out

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hey everyone,

So the Gentoo image itself is ready to go, Turboss tested the kernel on his end and saw better performance and more consistency. The only issue right now is qtpyvcp.

I am going to leave this decision completely up to you guys because I can go either way; should I publish the release and updated installer as-is, or should I spend more time (unknown how long it will take) to get qtpyvcp working with the image before pushing everything?

I can do a release now, then update the image again once qtpyvcp is working, that way you guys at least have something for now, but it's up to you.

Thanks,

Alec

Stepper based machine some general questions

Thank you for the answers.

This keeps things easier, "problems solved" so far. Next up is to hook up the spindle drive.

You can drive the VFD directly with RS485 via a USB to RS485 adapter without bothering with Ethercat. Worked perfectly for me.
I think if you wanted to use Ethercat to drive a VFD, you would use a Ethercat compatible VFD.
There is a Omron MX2 driver included. but I have never used it.

Machine partially rebuilt.
Did wind up finding that one of the linear blocks was damaged. order some new ones. I lapped and realigned everything, so things should be more precise now too - better than 0.001" over the whole work area pre compensation. Hopefully by next weekend its all running again with the new spindle and vacuum. woo.
