Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Okay. I'm officially lost. I can't get the stepper motors to work normally. Everything else works or would work with a few configuration changes if the movement was resolved. With the ec300-rt1052.txt configuration, the steppers have the grinding sound you can hear in the linked video.

I disconnected the shaft coupler, it's not a mechanical problem and it occurs on all axes. Since I can't find an ec300 specific DMA configuration, I modified the ec500-rt1052-DMA.txt configuration and used the settings appropriate for the dm556 driver. There is no movement at all with this configuration.

Trident is easier to build and tune, it moves the bed up/down, while 2.4 moves the whole gantry up/down.
As for quality, might be a bit lower due to screw induced wobbling, but i would not worry about it, it is minuscule difference.
As for speed, Trident can be faster if tuned correctly, again not much difference and it will be limited by the hot end anyway, not by the machine.
Go for it ! :)

Estop all the axes that scroll at low speed, a few hundredths per second

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Drive enable MUST be controlled by LinuxCNC.
Since you gave no info on what hardware, there is nothing more to help.

tommylight  have you built a Voron Trident? I am curious on how the Trident and the 2.4 compare as far as performance.

encoder to change PWM value to VFD

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi,
I have a VFD which speed is controlled by a PWM signal (converted to 0-10Vdc).
PWM generated by a RPI4 on which Linuxcnc is installed (QTDragon)
Now I am willing to use an encoder, such as a KY-040 or EC11 to change the PWM value and so to adjust manually the speed of the VFD.
Has anyone experience with this? How should I modify my HAL file?
Thanks for your inputs.

QtDragon PROBE: understanding popup error message

Category: Qtvcp

I am using QtDragon and wanted to probe a hole. I started the inside hole probe with the probe tip roughly centered above the hole. I got the following popup:

My PROBE settings were:

My questions are: What is "Max travel" referring to? Is that "XY" or "XY TRAVEL" or something else? And where do I find "xy_clearance"?

Where was the source for this PROBE panel located? Maybe, I'll figure it out myself.

Kind regards,
Guido

Tom, if you had of set out your goals from the beginning, without having to play 20 questions, you would have had an answer in far far less time.

[rant]
This is what makes me somewhat miffed on the forum, getting information out of people to provide a concise answer is like pulling teeth. It's like everything is a state secret. Have people forgotten the art of asking a question ?

I guess SPI would tie you to an arm platform or trying to bit bang from the host PC.
SPI is not recommended for long distance runs (its only really meant to board comms), even 6 or so inches can be unreliable when approaching MHz speeds. Seen this when experimenting with a Mesa 7c81.

Serial can use differential signals if there is noise, SPI differential signals can play havoc with timing at speeds.

And in reality unless you have a real hardware serial port, the serial comms is USB (at the host PC), doesn't run in realtime......in fact there is no realtime serial driver for Linuxcnc.

Estop all the axes that scroll at low speed, a few hundredths per second

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hello everyone. Happy New Year 2025.I was able to get by with pncconfig I have my two XY axes that work super well, I have the Z axis with a little bounce and above all I have the Y axis that scrolls after its movement the X and Z axes are fixed and precise. I have especially after the Estop all the axes that scroll at low speed, a few hundredths per second, I noticed that I had connected 28 V to my 7i77 card instead of 24 V would it not be a little too much for the card my power supply is closer to 400 V than 380 hence this small extra value.Could you help me to finalize my final setting. Thank you for your help. Eugene

hello
Thanks for your good work
I had a question
Why don't you use spi communication instead of using serial communication?
In my opinion, more reliable performance can be expected using spi connection

Cut Recovery Not Consistently Triggering

Category: Plasmac

It appears to have been caused by this commit  in July which seems to affect the HAL Python module.
It only affects locales that use commas instead of periods in floating point numbers.

A workaround until we get a permanent solution would be to edit src/emc/rs274ngc/interp_internal.hh and change the following:

Line 998 from:

~scoped_locale() { setlocale(category, oldlocale.c_str()); }
to:

 ~scoped_locale() { setlocale(category, oldlocale); }

Line 1000 from:

 std::string oldlocale;
to:

const char *oldlocale;
and then recompile.
