Its not the RPM you need but rather the linear mm/s velocity at 10V
If you have your encoder scale set correctly (check first) you can
measure this at the encoder velocity pin (it should read in mm/s
if scaled properly)

Edit, I miss-understood, yes, measuring the RPM if you have a way
to do this without LinuxCNC should work as well

Suggestion for a PCI EPP card for 7i43

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/54368-pci...-work-out-of-the-box
Apparently i have a Sunix card, and it works out of the box, but i have no 7i43 to test with.
When i get to the shop i can try to get some info on what modes it supports and report back.

PCI and PCI-E add on cards with parallel port that work out of the box

Category: Computers and Hardware

PCI to parallel card, same as above in everything except the chip naming is different.
Can be found on the same older HP desktops as the above.
Works out of the box in same modes as the one above.

PCI and PCI-E add on cards with parallel port that work out of the box

Category: Computers and Hardware

PCI to parallel card with 2 of RS232 serial port headers.
Can be found on older HP desktops, hard to find as most have been thrown to trash, but do check local repair shops, they might still be on the shelves...
Works out of the box with LinuxCNC 2.7 and above, can do OUT and IN mode, did not test X mode yet.
Comes with the long bracket and another long bracket with two serial ports.

PCI and PCI-E add on cards with parallel port that work out of the box

Category: Computers and Hardware

PCI to parallel, very old, bought online.
Works out of the box with LinuxCNC from 2.5 and above, several in use for over 10 years without issues.
Uses the MOSCHIP MCS9865 chip, comes with the short bracket.

PCI and PCI-E add on cards with parallel port that work out of the box

Category: Computers and Hardware

PCI-E to parallel, works out of the box, usually address is 0xd020, no complaints about "no parallel port found" from LinuxCNC 2.10.
Can be found only on HP desktop PC's, computer repair shops should have plenty, comes with the short bracket as pictured, price 10-15 Euro here.
Chip seems to be SUNIX SUN2212
It does support SPP, tristate and EPP

PCI and PCI-E add on cards with parallel port that work out of the box

Category: Computers and Hardware

Post only tested and verified cards, with a closeup of the chip used.
For issues with add on cards, start a new topic.
Thank you.

I am posting each card in it's own post so we can add additional info about what mode the cards support, like OUT, IN, X, EPP, ECP, etc.

7i97t Spindle has 0v or 10v

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

If I start the spindle at any speed and measure AOUT4 with a multi-meter, I get 10v. What do I need to change or add in my hal file to be able to get the scaling to work properly?

In the spindle control section of the docs, I saw loadrt scale count=1 and more for a 0-10v spindle. If this is what needs to be added to my hal file, what would the <your DAC pin name> be? Is it hm2_7i97.0.pwmgen.04.value?net spindle-speed-DAC scale.0.out => <your DAC pin name>Misc. info:
The spindle has an encoder. I counted its teeth at 256.
The spindle-vel-fb-rpm appears to read the RPM correctly.

I didn't attach my IO.hal, but if you need it let me know.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you very much PCW, you are helping me a lot with this project.

Ok, so if I understood this correctly, to calculate the output_scale, I need the rpm the motor makes at 10V input signal and from that calculate the linear velocity, but since i cant find anything like that in the specs, I guess i need to measure it?
