There must be an issue with pathing differences between package installs and run in place installs...

Try this as a workaround from a terminal:
mkdir -p ~/linuxcnc/nc_files/m_files
cp ~/usr/share/doc/linuxcnc/examples/nc_files/plasmac/m_files/* ~/linuxcnc/nc_files/m_files/
Then restart linuxcnc again.

So many acronyms, I just assumed the db prefix was a database file name. Then again Daughter Board makes sense.
Thanks again

Sorry cmorley, I was away from home so could not reply. I have attached a simple g-code program where this issue became visible.

Hi Phil,

It seems having to do with missing "M190" and this section in the ini file :
[RS274NGC]
RS274NGC_STARTUP_CODE = G21 G40 G49 G80 G90 G92.1 G94 G97 M52P1
PARAMETER_FILE = metric_parameters.txt
SUBROUTINE_PATH = ./:../../nc_files
USER_M_PATH = ./:../../nc_files/plasmac/m_files

But that's as far as I can get ?

Interestingly I made a sim from your config and it showed the same error but it did actually work. It also worked correctly on your gcode file.

Is it possible that your screen is "laggy" and does not update quick enough?

Hi Phil,

Somehow I have a sim configuration, but it throws an error on opening, see image attached. Sorry, I have no experience with sim configurations at all :(

Wow, I have not seen anything like that before, I have no clue...

Try this from a terminal:
linuxcnc /usr/share/doc/linuxcnc/examples/sample-configs/sim/qtplasmac/qtplasmac_l_metric.ini

Hi Phil,

I can only get this far, see screenshot attached. No menu opening up to pick a sim configuration ?

Editing Bitfile on 7i97t for extra smart serial connections

Category: Driver Boards

--dbnameN 7i85

Means use Daughter Board pin names instead of the default FPGA connector pin names.
There is no file involved, just a structure in mesaflash that has the daughter board
pin/terminal block names. 'N' is the port,1,2,3 etc

Most of our Ethernet SPI FPGA cards are 7IXX, PCI are 5IXX PCIE 6Ixx PC104 4IXX

Could you try it in the below sim, you will need to add a material #16 with the correct feed rate.
Warning: Spoiler!

Is software Estop allowed

Category: HAL

Are you using translation ?
-

Tommy what you saying in your rant is wrong “software estop is not allowed “.

It is allowed, depends on machine, most hobby machines do not need it as the spindle is not controlled by LinuxCNC, etc etc etc
And my rant was about the "e-stop latch", not the "e-stop".

 So, do yourself a favor and add an external estop to your 50 kg bench drill press and your 16-ton machine.I also hope you don’t let anyone else uses your software estop equipped machines, they are unsafe and you will not forgive yourself if someone else using them gets hurt.

You missed the point, they do have E-stops, big ones at least two, and the proper safety stuff, always.
My small plasma machines do not have any, they do not need it, ever. My Big industrial plasma machines with DC servo motors have at least 2 e-stops and obligatory "extreme limits" on all axis
Never had a single incident on my machines, the biggest incident was braking an end mill.

And yes, no one asked me for advice but since Linuxcnc documentation does not address this subject I felt obligated to make hobbits and new Linuxcnc users aware of the use of Estop.

I already said thank you.

Tommy as Linuxcnc gate keeper do us (Linuxcnc users) favor and add a warning in the Linuxcnc documentation “software estop is not allowed.  here is no substitute for an external standalone Estop/reset”.

Again, as Aciera said above,
the implementation of proper machine safety standards is first and foremost the responsibility of the machine integrator

--dbname3 7i85 is that an internal or external file.

I've just spent a lovely morning adding a new name to mesaflash, all faults my own. Stuffed the name up in my bit file, and then forgot a few things when adding it to mesaflash itself.

A little off topic, is there any recommended convention for naming a board. I've gone with "7x57"
7 cos that seems to be a trend (or would something else be better to distinguish it as a clone), X cos it's "off brand\clone" and 57 cos it has 57 pins. I'd like to eventually make a request at github for the changes I've made to mesaflash & linuxcnc, just to make my own life a little easier when updating and if anyone wants to give setup a go.

Python/NC routine just stops executing

Thank you, that was indeed the problem.

That it has a default 5-second timeout (as opposed to no timeout), I would argue, is a mistake.

My routine runs the dust collector shoe over the table to vacuum up debris, hence the need to be able to run for a couple of minutes.
