Suggestion for a PCI EPP card for 7i43

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

BTW it works with my custom hardware running a modified version of 7c81 bitfile that communicates via EPP.

Check the Lenovo motherboard for a lot header. If there is one but the Lenovo header cable, that will enable the parallel port in the bios. Without going into too many details the cable shorts a pin on the MB enabling the parallel port.
Worked on the Lenovo tower I picked up by the side of the road.

7i97t Spindle has 0v or 10v

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thank you for noticing my bonehead move. I commented it out when I was trying the pwm gen copied from pncconf with an 7i92/7i77. (I tried re-naming stuff to 7i97 unsuccessfully.)

Sadly I am still doing something wrong with the pwmgen. I no longer have AOUT4 stuck at 10v, but it is now stuck at 0v.

I have un-commented what you noted in my hal file. Changing [SPINDLE_0]SCALE to SPINDLE_0]OUTPUT_SCALE and adding OUTPUT_SCALE = 10000.0 to my ini file under spindle_0.

The pwmgen that you found was copied from my X axis and renamed for the spindle. It came from Mesa CT.

I am re-reading the pwmgen component in the docs, but I am having trouble understanding what I need to do.

Amazing, thank you Grotius!

Assuming this can be integrated in LCNC (for non-coders), the next step would be figuring out how to re-name axes or add more axis letters and define the axis type (linear or rotary).  Such as X1/X2, Y1/Y2, Z1/Z2, C1/C2, etc.

I've not programmed a Swiss lathe, but the twin-turret lathe I've fiddled with uses n1/n2 for the four duplicated axes (XYZC).

Gentoo LinuxCNC builds for ARM64 be of interest?

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Hello,

I was wondering, would it be of any interest to provide Gentoo ARM64 images for a few boards with PREEMPT_RT?

I don't think I have any besides a Pi 4 stashed away somewhere, but there's quite a lot of topics and messages about people getting LinuxCNC on Raspberry Pis and whatnot. What if there was a be-all and end-all solution that had Gentoo fully ready to go for LinuxCNC? Would anyone care or want this? What device(s) has/have the most interest/popularity among LinuxCNC users?

Cheers!

That's more that 1 ms so a reason for timeouts

You might try a 2 ms servo thread
(2000000 ns in the ini file)SERVO_PERIOD = 2000000

I saw "Supper imposed" function on modern sinumerik cnc this summer. I supposed, "yes it woould be nice to see same on linuxcnc. But maybe it will be never realized". But you make it so easy!!! I very impressed about that!

Used Laptops tested with LinuxCNC and Mesa Ethernet boards

Category: Computers and Hardware

Lenovo X1 Carbon Yoga laptop/tablet, no RJ45, touch screen, foldable tablet, 14"
-
-TouchScreen as it is laptop/tablet combo,
-no RJ45 connector,
-tested using a USB-A to GigaBit Ethernet adapter
-LinuxCNC 2.10 on Linux Mint 22 with RT kernel 6.10.12, Mesa 7i92 on a production machine,
-No GRUB changes, no isolcpus nor anything else, no BIOS changes
==disabling hyperthreading and Intel AMT gets rid the warnings
-Plugging and unplugging power does cause latency warning, but machine continues to work
-disabling TPM does NOT help much
==disabling SGX and virtualization DOES help a lot,
-no more warnings even playing videos during running of LinuxCNC and doing other stuff,
- WiFi does not work with this kernel
-
No video yet, will update when i get to it.
