I never tried that mainly because I did not know "linuxcnc" had the RTAI kernal and the "linuxcnc-uspace" was the PREEMPT rt.

Thanks yea I posted on a few Facebook groups asking people about it and they thought I was nuts but to me it makes perfect sense. A large gantry is the exact same as a plasma table. Cartesian coridinates XYZ what gets complicated is when you start to introduce a 6 axis robot with kinematics. What do you think of controlling it using the same controller as the plasma table? Is linux cnc capable of that many axis? It's gonna be interesting making a post processor to run this whole deal. I figure even just driving the crane around with the teach pendant would be handy but what would be even cooler is to have a auto part puller set up. It's a ways away I still haven't even set the table up I need to basicly reorganize the whole shop move the saw lines and lots of other heavy equipment but have been staying up late every night with a tape measure a can of spray paint chain smoking planning different set ups to optimize material flow threw the building. Seems yah can't win 100% every set up has its strengths and weaknesses. I got off the phone with hypertherm earlier they said that the ht2000 has a raw arc voltage output on the io board. Would the thc 5 work well for raw arc voltage?

EDIT: files changed to suit a pressure sensor on a analog input.

The following should work but has only been tested in a sim. Use a pressure sensor connected to an analog input and change the postgui file hal pin to suit the analog input. Change HIGH_PRESSURE_VALUE and LOW_PRESSURE_VALUE in user_periodic.py to the values you wish to use. All three files need to be in your plasma machine config directory. Due to response times you will need to move the torch to a suitable start point using the cut recovery panel after the job has paused.

Yeah, that with the CNC crane is very good, i asked a client of mine a few years back about that, he stared at me as his crane is 40X15 meters and 8 meters high. Had to ask him twice and still he was not convinced i can do that.
DO IT! :)

I see what you’re saying. That is a predicament, though I can figure that out later alike you mentioned. It may be solvable with the same me mechanism as the dial and some more thought as well. Though for now I’ll disable the THC.

how about the offset issue? Rotating the torch will offset the predicted cut point from the actual cut point. Can I program that out?

If you have to be able to adjust the height during cutting, you can’t just move the Z axis up and down if the torch is tilted. If you have a laser pointer, put it on an angle and then move it up and down. You will see the dot moving left and right. If you want to be able to adjust the height during cutting you need to move the torch perpendicular to the plate. This would mean tilting the whole Z-axis.
I would say, start with disabling the THC and starting from the edge. When that’s not enough anymore, then you can try to figure out the next steps.

You should have SheetCam set up to either use the materials that are in QtPlasmaC or to create the materials as required.
If you have something like below in the G-code file:
(o=0, nu=2, na=5mm Mild Steel 40A, ph=3.1, pd=0.1, ch=0.75, fr=3000)
then SheetCam is creating the materials.
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/plasma/qtpl...lasma:magic-comments

The default material in QtPlasmaC is set on the SETTINGS tab.

Yes I have the ht2000 I briefed threw the manual did not see anything about voltage divider. I'm going to give a try calling hyperherms tech support. I asked them a few questions before and they were pretty helpful guy was telling me about how he took part in developing the system. I'm shifting the project slightly into a new direction. I decided because I have 50 foot of rails I am going to take 30 of the feet and build a overhead gantry that will ride on the rails to load and unload plate steel. I am going to set these rails parallel to the gantry rails. I really like this idea because down the road it would be very easy to convert the gantry to being powered and possibly even CNC. I can use the gear track on the rails to move the gantry in the y axis. I will need to figure something out for the x and z axis but I figured I could program it to pick up the plate steel and set it down all automatically, avoiding the danger of moving the plate steel with a crane by hand. It would also potentially be possible to hook up a electro magnet to pick pieces off the table all cnc. I found one example of somebody doing it. youtube.com/shorts/DvBW-bO678k?si=3gM8novCpRZhSCEu

Hello RDA,

This would most likely be only for edge cuts that can start from off the material. Though I would like to also be able to have it used for designs. I could simply ensure I have a start cut first that comes in straight then I can do the actual design coming into that. I didn’t think of this, thank you!

when you say till the whole lifter do you mean the entire z-axis? Or just the torch? I plan on having the torch attached to a circular break away plate that is fixed with pins. Then it will marry with a circular dial of sorts with holes every 15 degrees. Therefore you will be able to manually remove the torch breakaway and lock it into another pin set.

i can disable the THC for this feature if that would be easier.

I never seen any documentation saying to use those commands in that way. I will try that and get back to you.
