Fast Hole EDM from Hacked Parts

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Can anyone speak to wether linuxcnc can be configured to run edm? Can it handle reverse feedrate? Are there any linuxcnc resources on running EDM? Thank you.

There are several videos on youtube using it, BAXEDM uses it, he is a member here and lately very active, some other videos are probably 10 years or more old:

Yeah, 4K is a bit steep for us, but it is very cheap compared to alternatives in that category,
I keep planing to build an EDM power source, i did order a small spool of wire about 2 years ago through a friend in Finland, it never got delivered nor got his money back, so i have nothing to test with, i can probably build a usable mock up in about two days with stuff around the shops, so now you mentioned this, maybe i should also build a sinker and do the power supply so it works for both... thinking out loud.
So far wondering about ESP32, web server, LinuxCNC, is 12 bit ADC enough, what voltage/current MOSFET's i have, what voltage/current is required in a range of 1mm to 100mm cutting and 1mm to 30mm holes, etc, etc....
Sinker EDM does not require CNC, but it would be easier for positioning or doing multiple holes in one part, maybe?
Anyone interested to jump in?

You need to set the repository in Synaptic to
deb http://buildbot2.highlab.com/debian/ bookworm master-uspace
plus you need to copy the key as shown for the new style. This is all shown here:

... alternatively you could issue the blkid command to see the UUID.

I could not recall this to save my life when i was answering this! :)
Thank you for reminding me, now i will go on and forget it promptly! :)

Menu>preferences>keyboard>Layouts tab, add
there add "English (US)" layout, a bit lower check if the "keyboard model" is "generic 105 key PC" and change if not, close.
Now there should be a little icon on the lower right side with US or DE in it, click on it and change to US, try jogging with []

@Tchefer,

first of all, thank you for your prompt answers.I can boot with kernel 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx, with the 6.1.75-rt23 .debs installed, but without making the link (sudo ln -sf vmlinuz-6.1.75-rt23 Image). If I reboot and then make the link, it doesn't boot anymore. In /proc/cmdline I don't see any value for ubootpart=.

At least for Fanuc, smoothing should be applied to probing moves, it not being applied means that the MTB didn't set the 6200 parameters as they should have and trapezoidal acceleration/deceleration is applied to skip moves vs bell curve acceleration/deceleration.

Help with Denford Machine AXIS config

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Several things might be off here:
-the gcode produced by Easel is set as "center 0,0", while almost all machines normally use "lower left 0,0"
-the machine is set as "home 0,0" to upper right, almost all use "lower left 0,0"
-Homing is not set properly
Is this an existing config that worked at any point in time or is this a new and untested config?
If the latter, open file explorer and in the EMC2 folder then configs folder, check if there is another existing config.

superimposed control
there are alot of multi turret and multi spindle lathes about now, old controls etc so needing some love of a new control , but to get the best from them you need run multi programs at once, superimposed if machine layout allows etc.
more so when you want to use two turrets on the main and do "pinch turning"
with super imposed you can offset pinch turn also so one tool will be slighly infront of the 2nd tool doing the finish.

you can start to do machines like this

this is superimposed control, where other axis sets must follow a master
basicly you "offset" the slave X Y Z to the master X Y Z which gives you axis following each other as you see.

yes there are macros that you call todo all this, (citizen call these sync codes) but its only setting up the system to group axis for use in each program, defind what will follow what and who and how.

the macro will also postion the machine in place for you to a setup drive on point. so the operators never see anything complex and scary to program as its been done for them interms of axis selection
you just program as if it was a normal X Z lathe.

i only have back ground on citizen machiens which have a lot of macros todo this alot of this, but have a good back ground how its basicly working things in the back ground. i think star has a different way todo things in terms of sync codes but i dont know never seen a program for one etc.

here is a video of my M20 sliding head Citizen, quick part i had to make.

here is a video of the program running

here you have 3 programs that run together using sync codes and wait codes.
these are kept in 1 file on citizens they just define each program by a $ sign for each program start $1,$2,$3 , when loaded on machine its displayed as 3 programs as seen in the video

here main slid on main spindle is working at its own speed while bottom turret is working on back end of the part in the sub spindle

once done, it waits for the main to be ready for turret to work on the main (you can use turret and main slid at the same time also, also can use the turret to say drill/bore on main and sub can drill or bore on turret also)

Like tommylight said and I want to add that you should also check /boot/armbiEnv.txt for the same UUID. When you see a /boot mount in fstab you could remove that line too.

Here it didn't recognize the ID option by the way, in that case just leave that away, alternatively you could issue the blkid command to see the UUID.

i have also noticed on my fanuc , mitsubishi machiens it seems when in a probe move there is no smoothing on any axis motion, its a much harder point to point move you can hear the differance on the machine axis when making prob moves onto a surface.
so dont think that the main stream controls use motion smoothing on probe moves as it seems they do not, when you are probiing it tends to not be that fast also, aprox 1000mm/min feed is common.
for the reasons mentioned before. as probining its key you always have a known probe detection trigger distance etc as this is what you calibrate a probe cycle for..

also
dont for get threading on lathes (G33 and g76) is another one you will skip for smoothing as it must follow the spindle encoder like tapping.

@tommylight
Do you have a Ascii Code for the Signs to move the C-Axis?
So, i think, it must be possible to search for the Signs on DE Keyboard.
