First time linux cnc user - no stepper movement.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I cam from a "working" mach3/uc100 setup over to a 7i96s setup. K4030 drivers. terminal pings the mesa board. I have dir +/- and step +/- wired to the k4030 and 7i96s. a cell phone charger to power the 5v of the 7i96s.
steppers dont move. i have no limit switches hooked up yet and i configured the settings to not need to home first.
i tried connecting the 24/36v psu ground to com on the 7i96s, i tried connecting the 7i96s 5v to the dir + & step + (which is how mach3 was configured; and the dir/step - was 2 pins on the serial board).
when i connected 5v to dir/step +, and started linuxcnc, i did get "unexpected real time delay on task0 with period 1000000"

what do i have wrong?

once i get this figured out im going to make a video on all of this to help me next time and others. i have been on the struggle bus thus far.

side note, with just the 5v input and dir/step +/- hooked up, i get 5.09v between gnd & 5v, i get 5.09v between step + & gnd, i get .23v between dir - & gnd, and dir + to gnd i get 4.81v. on unused step/dir ports its the same except i dont get the .23v reading, its 0 instead.

install over version 2.8

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Details and instructions for updating from 2.8 to 2.9 are covered in the doccumention. I don't think there were any significant configuration changes, and none that would be incompatible with a 2.8 config.
linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/getting-st...dating-linuxcnc.html

I don't think there are or were any changes in Classiclader for version 2.9

Change log for 2.8 to 2.9 is here.

install over version 2.8

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Hello, I would like to know if it'a possible to install the new version over the version 2.8 ?
Are config files compatible ?
Is the classic ladder compatible ?

Is the gui of the classic ladder better in version 2.9 ?

what are the main difference of the new version ?

Best regards

Hi.

Teile mal deine Tooltable.

7i76e step dir signal missing for stepgen type 0

How can I diagnose why it's not type 0? Maybe it's the Ethernet cable's fault?

All modes work (0,1,2), but the steplength setting
only  affects the step length in modes 0 and 1.

Maybe you have the step length too short for the scope to catch

Hi.

I recently wrote some macros for a pyvcp panel. Tilman and I called it easyprobe. (github->hausen8->easyprobe) In the newest version I implemented a routine to measure as many points one like an write the values in a txt file.

So yes. One xould build some kind of panel or screen and get some usefull results. Maybe of intrest.

Best regards
