+ and - both go same direction

Category: Basic Configuration

I saw discussion of dirty parallel port PCI connection, so I started looking. The parallel port to controller box has a USB cord supplying power. I had taken the tower in the house where I had Ethernet because 2.7.14 has no built-in WiFi driver. I neglected to plug that cable into a USB port when I took it back to the shop. Everything works again! Thanks!

Chromium has nothing to do with no direction change.
Check wiring first, most probably loose wire inside a connector or broken wire.

I have used 2.7.14 for several years now without problems.  Friday, Chromium stopped working so I reinstalled it.  Now _ and - both go the same direction.  So I reinstalled. No change.  Suggestions?  Sherline mill.

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

that is because this is wrong
MAX_ACCELERATION = 2000000

and this does nothing no matter what value
DIR_HOLD = 50000

did your setup work before with mach3?

if it is stepper timing related you need to load the DMA stepgen config and adjust your step timing accordingly

darkpheonix try with this and go from there. if you are trying to set up a rotational axis, that is different than a linear axis in setup
Warning: Spoiler!

I thank you, the same crappy movement.

i have removed this section but if put bad values linuxcnc go in juntion error, like put
MAX_ACCELERATION = 2000000

Probe Basic and Carousel ATC with Geneva and Stepper

Category: QtPyVCP

Updated vid

I was also planning to mount the toolsetter on the ATC, so it becomes available when the carousel is out of the way.
But I'm a little worried it will trigger due to the movement of the cylinder, as the end cushioning is not that good, need to solve that first.

If you are going to be copying this post here - www.forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/44828...rd?start=2140#327240 - watch the caps and dashes. On my Rpi5 / bookworm install its not LinuxCNC but linuxcnc and them there should be a double dash (--) before install in both instances in step 2. no show stopper but it was not a direct copy/paste into the console.

A full blown NVEM config would be sweet. Or just little snippets like the one you provided for the end-stops. That bit of info now allows me to configure ALL my inputs.

See if you qualify for one of the free license alternatives for Fusion 360. If you do I think it is hard to beat.
One can argue that it isn't free, at least it doesn't cost any money.

Thanks for the input Langdons.

Good to know that a beefed up PC is a better choice than the Pi.

The thought did cross my mind to keep the motors and replace drivers. I would assume I'd need to get drivers that work with the Siemens encoders or replace the encoders with ones that match the drives.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

J

None of the axis are moving - using mesa 7i92t with 7i76u

Category: Basic Configuration

Enable signal:
This signal is used for enabling/disabling the drive.
High level +5V (NPN control signal) for enabling the drive, and low level for disabling the drive.

PNP and Differential control signals are on the contrary, namely Low level for enabling.

By default it is left UNCONNECTED (ENABLED).

Contradicting info.
Not unusual on China stuff, at all.

I use FreeCAD- the "Path" workbench got renamed to (more appropriately) "CAM" a while back- when searching for information on it, you may see references to both. It's adequate, getting better all the time (use the weekly builds!). Lots of little things that are obnoxious, but I haven't found anything better for any reasonable-to-this-hobbyist cost if you're doing more mechanical designs than organic/artsy. Being parametric on the CAD side and having adaptive toolpaths on the CAM side are huge for me. Definitely a learning curve, sometimes you have to go about things in unintuitive ways for various reasons to get what you want.

Depends heavily on what you're doing as well. Blender + BlenderCAM might be a good choice if you can manage the learning curve and are doing more organic/less "dimensioned" stuff. FreeCAD doesn't handle that so well IME.

If you're doing 2D/engraving type stuff, Inkscape or others might be better.

You might also end up using multiple for different things.
