VFD reminds me of A Series of Unfortunate Events

I am in the process of repairing a CNC machine where the spindle and VFD were replaced by the previous user with a router.

It's not that great.

Keep the spindle if you can, so long as it is well-made.

I wish split-phase inducion moters could be used as a CNC spindle, but they are so heavy (30lbs for 1/3HP), it would not really work out well.

You say LinuxCNC is way way better than Mach 3.

How so?

Thanks for he fast reply,
I did try an 7i73 on wat i now guess is channel 0 of the 7i74.
this was not recognized so i tryed with the other ports in the HAL.
Wat i now think if i understand write is that if put on any other channel it shuld probably just be recognized.
I will try this tomorrow.
Againe thanks for the fast help.

7I97 + 7i74 SSereal problem

Category: Driver Boards

The 7I97_7I74D firmware only has one sserial port (port_0).
This port has 8 channels, channel 0 on the 7I97
and channels 1..7 on the 7I74. (channel 0 is skipped
on the 7I74 to make the channel numbering match
the 7I74 documentation)

The reason for this is that 2 sserial ports will not fit
in a 7I97's FPGA (with the standard 7I97 I/O).

The 7I97T's 7I74 config does have 2 sserial ports and
9 total channels. (possible because of its larger FPGA).

Lcvette, Sorry, when I wrote this originally the site was having issues and I could not post. seems I forgot to add them when I tried to post the second time.

Let me know if you need anything else!

All the help is appreciated!

for clarification, if the file names of the files you uploaded are the ones you intend to use, you need to use them in the ini file call as shown below:
[HAL]
HALUI = halui
HALFILE = probe_basic_setup_2025-01-09.hal
POSTGUI_HALFILE = probe_basic_postgui.hal
TWOPASS = on

Mach3 can obviously do a lot that I do not even immagine, same as Linux CNC.
Mach3 seems to be a dead end (obsolete hardware, obsolete software)

The Mesa Card is definitely better documented and I bought fairly cheap DM860 stepper drivers that seem to work (good enough for who its for).

This week I threw some of the equipment on the workbench and started messing with pncconfig.
Four motors are running The spindle drive is still an issue. (that ist next up)

Hi,

I am using a 7I97 and a 7I74 to get multiple SSerial connektions.
I did load the "7i97_7i74D.bit" direktly from mesanet.com.
Loading the Bit file seamd to have woarked. but i can not use any otther than sserial_port_0.
when using sserial_port_1 the config dose not load and tels me that not more than one sserial is avaleble.
I have attached the Therminal output from me reading the mesacard config.
In the SSerial section it says:
Module: SSerial
There are 1 of SSerial in configuration

How can i change this on my card so it recognises that thear shuld be 8 chanels and not 1.

If thear is other information needed to find the source of this problem, tell me and i will do my best to provide the info.

Means the same to me! Trash means, it goes out the door. Separating things is very common here and it is easy to bring old circuit boards and such to the recycling companies. .-)

Is it worth it?

Problem still exist.
Make two video with problem.
First with my setup.
When use m6 commands or gcode all is ok.
But when press button for turn changer only carousel.0.current-position pin change carousel.0.pocket-number pin didint change. After that using m6 command machine want to unload tool to actualy position changer where is now no to pocket from before load the tool...
Thinking my setup maby is wrong but tryed with Vismach simulation is the same problem.
Any sugestion where lokking the problem??

I can make a simple configuration for 2 tools with a sensor for each tool with a carousel component. I can for 7i92+7i77 or 7i96s, because I have such cards to check. I think this will be enough for understanding. Which is better?

7i96S control HY VFD using RS485

Category: Driver Boards

Hi all. I recently purchased a Mesa 7i96S and was hoping to use the onboard RS485 capabilities to control my spindle through my HY VFD.

I've spent a few hours reading up about this topic and it seems that nobody has actually done this with this particular VFD?
Before I go down the rabbit hole of writing my own Mesa Modbus driver, is there any way to expose RS485 on the Mesa card to the existing implementation of hy_vfd?

Ok, PCW was telling that should be terminated at 7i96s. Can make that change.

The encoder velocity has consistentely fast changes.

Note: I was able to make the bit file changes to add 3 more encoder in expansion port.
