You're making it too complicated.

make "user main" a member of sudo group.
make "user client" not a member of sudo group.

Just remember each user will have to have linuxcnc configs.

Linuxcnc works the way it is. Your idea just adds so much more complexity, and I'm really unsure if Linuxcnc can be run as a "service".

Why are you so paranoid about security, the machine running Linuxcnc is not meant to be used as a desktop. If you were really worried you'd want to remove anything that will give a user to the internet.

net analog3 [HMOT](CARD0).7i76.0.0.analogin3 => spindle_load.bar_spindle_load

Kann mir bitte jemand auf die Sprünge helfen das zu lösen?

Linuxcnc 2.9.2 installiert von der CD am 13.05.2024

Display = Gmoccapy

EMBED_TAB_NAME = spindle_load
EMBED_TAB_LOCATION = box_custom_4
EMBED_TAB_COMMAND = gladevcp -x {XID} -H spindle_load.hal spindle_load.glade

EMBED_TAB_NAME = timer
EMBED_TAB_LOCATION = ntb_setup
EMBED_TAB_COMMAND = gladevcp -x {XID} -H timer.hal timer.glade

Grüße aus Düsseldorf

Getting the most of cheap glass scales

Category: Driver Boards

I had an idea on my mind for a while: trying to get more resolution from basic 5um glass scales by interpolating the signals, like Heindenhain does. For most manual machines 5um resolution is enough, but for closing position the loop increased resolution is allways welcome, as the awesome MESA borads will be able to handle pulse rate. This will not increase the overal accuracy of the machine, but improve the movement on the very small steps and reduce the deadband and oscillations.

Recently I got a Ditron 0.1um scale, and idiot me crashed it while doing some testing to repair a servo encoder. Thanks to this I have dissasembled it and the reader itself is the same as other scales. The read singals are sent into a PCB on the reading head. On a 5um scale, the singals go through a comparator and you get the 5um resolution reading the quadrature 0.02mm marks on the glass. On a lower resolution unit, the signals are sento into an IC that does the interpolation. I will check the shape of the signals on the photodiodes wiht my oscilloscope, to check the shape. Hopefully is kinda sinusoidal, but could be triangular too. If anyone with a 5um unit does the same will great. I have found a couple of open hardware interpolators PCBs aimed to work with Heidenhain scales, using the IC-NV chip.

My 0.1um scale cost 4 times more than a 5um one from the same brand. For me that have very little free time and I'm not an expert on electronics makes more sense to just buy the high resolution ones, but I think many people who already has 5um scales or are in a budget will benefit. Let me know your thoughts on it.

I want to use QTAxis, is it meant to be used?

Category: Qtvcp

There is something rendering on my machine in front of the status bar.

It is visible in 2.6.2, master, and my splitter branch

It looks different based on what theme I am using:

Do you have any idea what it is? or how I could identify it?

Thank you so much for your support.
Why I was saying 'root access' because I saw in linuxcnc official distribution the main user 'cnc' is part of sudo group, this is what I was calling root access.
Here is complete list

cnc tty disk dialout sudo audio video plugdev users input render netdev bluetooth i2c gpio spi

So my problem is
I wanted to have 2 users on same machine lets call them main and client
where main user has all access including halcompiler to install new modules.
and client user with less access can communicate that instance which main user is running via python api.

Announcing Deckard: StreamDeck support for LinuxCNC

Category: Show Your Stuff

Rod, how do you always manage to derail the point and make it about something that you have that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic?

I'm sure there's plenty of threads about pendants, how did it end up here?

It's a clever idea that tangentaudio came up with here. I'm not a fan of the streamdeck but the concept is good. It really wouldn't be a huge feat to replicate such a thing with an off the shelf 7" LCD and a microcontroller to handle button inputs and spit it out to a SmartSerial port which is "realitme"......other than software which isn't my thing but if anyone wants to grind away at the keyboard I'm sure I could make a device and post the plans.

Yes, we all seem to have a professional distortions :) :)

A few more pictures of the control panel.

It's not perfect but I like it :)
First there is a primer, then a paint base and clear varnish. Then I engraved it on the router. I used a white paint base for filling. But it would be better with a white body filler

If you need a pulse on a falling edge have a look at the 'oneshot' component, which has a parameter setting for falling edge detection:
