Clive, I was at the shop so I took a couple of photos for you.
This one shows the adjustment screw I spoke about. Just below the left hand carriage. Its probably worth mentioning the two black wires attached by screws are grounds back to the star grounding point for noise control.
Yes, the microswitch is the lower z axis limit. This shows my inexperience. I should swap the switch around with the striker plate so the wiring does not move.
And the blue sensor here is for the breakaway. YOu can see the adjustment screw here again.
So I barely have 10mm of movement in the float switch but it is enough to trigger the prox sensor shown in the second photo. In practice now with Plasmac it never goes off!

Thanks Rod for the pic.
Have I got this logic correct.
Does the total Z axis (on the screw) move down until the torch hits the part then it keeps moving down until the floating head switch trips.
When this switch trips does it then does move the total Z axis up until the floating head trips again.
Do you also use soft limits on all axis. (I generally do ) but don't have a limit switch on -Z because its impossible to know the tool length on a mill.

Looks awesome Clive. I was trying to work out from your photos how the X axis was driven by that stepper at the rear of your gantry.
It might only be small but it looks a serious bit of kit!

Dear all,
I just to make sure I got this right.
1.Torch is negative , clamp is positive.
2. Grounding the cnc table with elektronics of cnc and to power ground is not a problem even 1.?
I am playing around to make my own thc controller using voltage devider, ina219 and a esp32.
3.Not clear to me is if the 7i76e can be fed with up down data using relays.
4. Maximum voltage is 300V dc? the arc ok voltage? Hystheresis is 3 volts on which voltage? Around?
Thank you,
