Update:
After some testing I decided that 25 RPM was too fast for the 900mm diameter drum. I have put on a 36 tooth sproket which will limit the top speed to 16 RPM. it also multiples the torque by 1.8 to give 1008Nm at the shaft.

Part tray with removable front gate. The plan is to butt the tray up to the drum and the lip of the tray will sit into the opening. I will then remove the gate and push the parts in. I have not tried it yet as I need another chain link.

Another small update,

I had some advice that the cast iron taper lock bushes I was going to use would be prone to shattering under the impact loads the tumbler will impose. So I replaced them with tempered steel bushes. Took a while for my local bearing shop to get my parts in but they seem to work well.

Once I had my new steel bushes installed I finished off the plates I was planing on tumbling a month ago.

All tumbled without any issues. Now to finalize the enclosure design. Also the VFD makes this a breeze. I would hate to try to do this with a normal on/off motor. The Jog function alone is worth the cost of the VFD let alone the speed control.

so what's the plan with outer frame? are looking to add sound dampening material to keep noise levels down? or protection to put the whole thing outside? or is this just to act as a guard to keep people safe :) i would imagine with employee's you need some kind of guarding in place to keep safety police happy.
