I'm taking the basic idea of the cncdrive AXBB-E controller I designed and am building out a new controller for LinuxCNC. I will use this thread to document the process.
Pictures of the existing controller.
New controller:
The components I am using:
Mean Well SE-600-48 - 48V @ 600W power supply for stepper drivers
Mean Well RS-25-5 - 5V @ 25W power supply
Mean Well HDR-15 - 24V power supply for THCAD Ohmic
Mean Well LRS-150-24 24V @ 156W
DM556T Digital Stepper Driver 1.8~5.6A 20-50VDC
Mesa 7i96
Mesa THCAD-5 Ohmic
Mesa THCAD-5 THC
Computer:
Lenovo M93P, 12GB ram core I5 (dimensions 7" x 7" x 1.5")
I am debating switching to an Odroid H2+
I plan to mount the computer to the inside of the door.
Here is how I planned to layout the power supplies and components for the new controller.
I started thinking about how this controller will be extended to the new machine I am building and I forgot to add an additional driver for the A on the Y axis. I am able to modify the layout by putting the 24V on the inside of the door of the enclosure.
I've been making panels out of 16 gauge mild steel. I will put a large panel on the front of the door as well. You can see I have cut out the holes for the panels in the enclosure already. Once complete I will spray it with the thin black bedliner spray paint I used on the last controller. I might leave the inside of it white as it will make it easier to see inside once it is put into service.

I really like your torch breakaway design.
You may get a better latancy indication by running "latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000 --show" then you can easily add a few glxgears instances.

Thank you. It has worked well over the last month.
I did a lot more tweaking, installed Linux mint 19.3, and did some more noise disabling of things to help. Hopefully my 7i96 gets here by next week so I can start bench testing.

I also like your breakaway - more elegant than having to fight gravity, balance the breakaway forces in the different directions, and to catch the torch

That looks good for any Mesa board, and since i am writing this on a Quad i5 Lenovo M93 that already has a Mesa 6i25 in it (well for the last year or two) i am fairly sure about it !Not looking good?
Running under Linux Mint 20 with rt kernel.
Maybe there are some things I can tweak in the bios.

Thanks. That is exactly what I was trying to accomplish.

@RodW I know we had talked about the 25K 5Watt resistor needed for the ohmic thcad-5 setup. Does it replace the 300K resistor below?
No Its in addition to it on the high voltage side as a pull down or pullup. I'll check it out when I get a chance and advise.
