Don't really have hal/ini files yet as I am doing this in the pconf wizard.

These are what I get when I finish the wizard.
1drv.ms/u/s!Anw0aD8CF6Z_huI2SZq2O2Z876C46Q?e=OVxbqD

I included the working para port ones as well. When I try to launch the mesa one I get a crash. I have included that as well.

Post the results of running this in a terminal:

uname -a

Post your .ini and all .hal files listed in the .ini file.
Post the position of all jumpers on the 7i96 card.

From your description you have a configuration error and or running the wrong realtime kernel.

The IP address in the hal file is very likely wrong

The default fixed 7I96 IP address is 192.168.1.121
The default settable (EEPROM) 7I96 IP address is 10.10.10.10

The only case where LinuxCNC would not be using one of these
addresses would be if the settable address was changed
This is normally only done if you have multiple Ethernet cards
in a LinuxCNC system.

The ip address was right earlier this morning. I changed it to see if it would give an error and forgot to change it back. I was at 121 for all my other testing.

Linux PlasmaCNC 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 3.4.55-4linuxcnc i686 GNU/Linux

Jumpers are all factory.

w2 right
w3 right
w4 right
w5 down
w6 down
w7 up
w8 up (This differs from default but i did not change it.)

I don't see any other jumpers.

Did I miss any files on the zip I uploaded?

Linux PlasmaCNC 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 3.4.55-4linuxcnc i686 GNU/Linux

That will not work for Mesa cards, you need the stretch version from the downloads page or the RT version from here:

"Linux PlasmaCNC 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae"

This a RTAI OS version, you need a Preempt-RT OS for Mesa Ethernet cards

Either the Stretch test ISO here:

www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/

or the Mint ISO (this may not be the latest)

Thanks. Will grab that and try again. Does it matter which one I get?

Does it matter which one I get?

If you have an older PC get the first one, if you do have a decent PC get the second one.

Its a Pentium D so decidedly old.

Thanks again for all the help. I ignored the note about mesa cards on the download page because at the time a mesa card was not even a thought. It never even stuck around to be a niggling thought during all this troubleshooting.
