I confirm the same problem also with Italian language. i solved it by updating mint from menu to 19.3 tricia the language was still english and everything worked fine. a little while ago I read Robert's post and I went to plasma to do the test in Italian and I saw that it continues to work well.

Ok I think that any discussion of Mint 20 should be removed from this thread.
The Mint 20 install is a mixture of Mint & Debian packages that are self installed, where as the packages I have setup are exclusively built on a Mint system.

Where would BeagleBrainz be appropriate?

That would be for the mods to decide, I was just making a suggestion.
Do you realise on your Mint 20 setups you are using an older kernel than what is on the Linuxcnc Mint 19.x ISOs ?
I’m not having a go at Tommy, but I get a little giggle.

No, I didn't know, I thought that the kernel had to be that, I don't know what the latest operating kernel is for LinuxCNC, I just tried the guide as a curiosity and the other day I came across this thread.

I thought that the contribution would be of some help and I wanted to contribute, there is little more I can do for the community: silly:

The problem with mixing the Debian packages on Mint system is there are some slight issues.
You will have an issue if you install the linuxcnc-dev-package which frustrate you if you have a custom user space component.
If later on you wish to have a go at building a run in place version, aka RIP, you will have issues.
I found this out myself and I think another user may have mentioned it as well.
The thing is if you use the same packages from the Ubuntu Bionic repo, the version that Mint 19.x uses, Mint 20 uses Focal, and the Linuxcnc packages from the repo I have setup, you will have a more homogeneous system.
The reason is due the slight differences in versions between the Debian & Ubuntu packages.

Understood, so it can be suicide to migrate a working machine configuration from Debian to Mint, it is not something as simple as copying all the files and paste.

Config files for Linuxcnc aren’t the issue.
It’s mixing the software packages of Debian & Ubuntu/Mint that can cause issues or minor surprises.

quite right
I have several small SSDs and have made a habit of making exact copies of the working machine. then I do all the tests I want.
