One (unlikely) possibility is that the 50mA (or so) that they take is overloading the supply.

FWIW - When I turn the voltage up on the power supply the amperage climbs, but nothing ever smoked... and then when I tried them individually they powered right up.

Anyway, it seems that you have some sort of axis and three working sensors.

Now to decide what that is all for...

Just a quick update. I got sidetracked on some other projects and just got back to this one. I ended up replacing the cheap 'slot sensors' with these , which I am happy to report are working great... at least in HAL.

The last sensor to replace is the proximity sensor for the breakaway. I decided to go with this one. Andy pointed out that my current prox appears to be a knock off of this one, so I got the PNP version of the 'real' one. I will know more tomorrow when I get it installed.
