7i96 Configuration Problems was created by salem747
HI All,
I'm sure this info is available but I am struggling finding it.
I am trying to get a plasmaC running with my 7i96 board. I have a working base cnc config working that will run Axis.
I have run the configurator and put in the pins as best as I can tell from the HAL pin listing in the working axis configuration.
When I run the new configured instance I get an error that says 'db_float.out" does not exist:
When I run the configurator again, the pin assignments that I put in for the float switch and my arc on signal are gone. I'm assuming I am entering the wrong pin address somehow. those ones are also not in the connections file.
Another question is when I look at the pins for 13 and higher (which Mesa thinks should be outputs and actually each "output" uses 2 connections ie out0- and out0+) there doesn't seem to be an option for "output" certainly not a binary output, like what my plasma cutter power source wants. Well the "output" pins seem to have less options:

Torch on = OUT
float in = IN
both of them wrong in the wizard.

The db_float.out pin is plasmac related so you may get a better response
to that issue if posted in the plasmac section.
Note that on a 7I96 only GPIO 0 through GPIO10 are mapped to isolated input pins and
other pins are used for SSR/Step/DIr Encoder etc so are not available for GPIO use.
The SSR outputs (OUT0+,OUT0- through OUT5+,OUT5-) are normally configured with
pncconf or JTs 7i96 configuration program. They are not normal GPIO outputs but rather
SSR outputs, with names like 7i96.0.ssr.00.out-00.

Yeah, I have tried it a few ways, I was looking at the list in the pin description, thinking that would maybe fix it.
Is the suffix the key thing "...013.in" or the piece "26 bit out" the part to look at. In the instance of the torch on, I don't have an option of "...013.out".
That was my other question, why for the "Output" pins as described on the board and in the documentation, the pin description in the HAL doesn't seem to be an output?!?

If you use pncconf, the I/O connections for isolated I/O are in the TB3 tab
(GPIO for inputs and SSR for outputs)
Also note that a board input pin is a hal output (its output from the card to hal)
and a board output is a hal input (hal drives the board output)

Also I understood that you don't mess with any of the plasma specific mapping until you do the PlasmaC, ie not in pncconf.

Yes, you should use the isolated outputs on TB3. The outputs on
TB3 are SSRs (basically a switch that connects
the OUT+ to OUT- pins) and activated by the SSR hal pins
If you are running master I think pncconf has plasma specific
setup options (but those maybe only for QTPlasmaC)
AFAIK PlasmaC has been replaced by QTPlasmaC.

Cool, I did see where you gave the SSR syntax somewhere else.
One more question for you, my arc ok and float switch are 2wire items, should I put one of the leads for these two inputs to the common and the other mapped through HAL?
And to clarify, the suffix of the pin name is the important part of the pin ID, not that other text in the HAL config table? The 26 bit out/in false stuff?

There are 7i96 examples in the table below the image:
