Was that a completely stock 8.4 installation, or had you perhaps configured the SMI fix (which would need re-doing after a reinstall)?

You could try isolcpus, that normally leads to some improvement in latency, though that seems unlikely to be a real fix of the underlying problem.

Is this a software-stepping machine? If you are using external hardware (Mesa, Pico, Pluto) and have no base thread then 60uS might be borderline acceptable. If you do have a base thread and are using software signal generation then the problem does need solving.

Thx Andy.
isolcpus tip did not help to better latency... :(
Instalation v10.04 is new from liveCD no upgrade.
yes, I using MESA boards.
The all machines have stepper motors.

The basic question?
why 8.04 work -> 10.04 not work
I tried basic config "hm2-stepper" and still error "join x following error"
EMC2 ver 2.4.6 is better than master 2.6.pre-0

Thx for all help
Martin

What are the FERROR and MIN_FERROR values in units of steps?

standard like in 8.04
FERROR = .1
MIN_FERROR = .01
When 10x larger -> also error...
I think it now makes all of us...

None, we are errors in the original configuration hm-stepper.
Can you also try ...

My case is a little simpler.
I have always used master on 8.04 for testing on my little mill.
At some point something changed as now I can't even jog it far without it follow erroring.
The big problem is I'm, not sure when it changed. i hadn't tested in a while.
using mesa 5i20 boards hardware steppers.
I guess I should try using 2.4 see if there is a difference.

You are using Ubuntu 8.04 and EMC> 2.5?

so you are saying that the hm2-stepper.ini file on the working system is identical to the hm2-stepper.ini file on the non-working system?
