Looking to get the spindle going.

Using an Allen Bradley 1336 Plus VFD. This VFD takes 0-10V for speed and a separate signal for reverse.

When I look at HAL pin ANALOGOUT5, initially its zero. If I click the spindle clockwise it goes to 1. If I click the other spindle button it goes to -1.

That all makes sense except I need a 0-10V (I can fix the scaling) magnitude signal and a separate forward reverse digital signal.

Looked through pncconf and don't see any options for this. Tried Googling and didn't find an answer either.

Is there a way to convince LinuxCNC and the 7i77 card to play with my VFD?

In hal:
-wire the analog out value to the ABS component in
-wire the ABS out to physical analog out.
That way you get only 0-10V on the output.

Found something cool I wanted to make a record of.

I was planning on taking the original Hurco control panel and cutting out the existing CRT and tape drive holes for sort of LinuxCNC display panel. The owner of the machine wants to preserve the original Hurco control panel.

OK, so now probably I think we should use the existing Hurco swing arm and replace the control panel with a display/keyboard/mouse. But at the very least, we still require a hardwired E-Stop.

Lots of CNC pendants out there. Most of them USB based. USB will not provide a hardwire E-Stop and the MPG will be subject to "GUI delays" which are quite common with the RPi4.

Ran across this: wapl.es/cnc/2020/02/23/linuxcnc-jog-wheel-setup.html

Hard wired E-Stop and MPG :) Ordered one from Aliexpress.

Found the spot in pncconf to get a 0-10V output.

On the spindle page, in the upper left corner, there is a box where you can select +- voltage for forward and reverse.

Un checked this and I get a 0-10 on the analogout5 for both directions. There are also spindle CW and CCW signals.

No HAL hacking necessary.

Hey Leith,

I have been tied up and not on here at all for a bit. Looks like you are coming along well on your retrofit. I have been super busy with work and working on 2 other EtherCAT controllers. Sorry I was not around for the encoder wiring as I had pics and the TB8 connection numbers. Anyway, will be on along and along hopefully... just have had lot of semi-emergency work calls. Plus been wanting to tinker with the new SilverDragon GUI.

Hope all is going well.

Robert
