You gotta remember I'm a newbie to EMC2 and with Linux, well I'm not so new to linux but I am not a Linux techie .

Generally, when something goes wrong, dmesg will tell you exactly what the problem was, assuming that you are the guy who wrote the error text, and that the actual problem is the one that he expected to cause that message to appear.
if you are not the guy who wrote the message then the phrases used might not be at all clear to you, and the actual problem might well be something that the coder guy never considered, but which causes the same problem.

So, what I am saying is that reading dmesg output needs a bit of intuition, you need to think inside the head of the geek who typed that message.

But really, what you are looking for is any message in dmesg that isn't upbeat and positive.

When I see errors from trying to run examples that require special hardware like pluto and all kind of crazy stuff like EPP errors I have to assume your jumping all over the place and not doing the basic things correctly. The reason I gave you the link was so you could follow along with stepconf and create a basic config and work from that. Being not so new to linux makes you more dangerous than a complete newbee.

My suggestion is to delete all your configs and create a basic one with stepconf and stick with that.

You're right about that :-) OK I'll start from scratch and use dmesg. Then I'll post the errors I find. That's what you're asking me to do right?

Using the Stepconf Wizard create a simple config with just your axes and run that. If it won't start then take a look at dmesg.

This really makes no since now when I try and run EMC it starts fine, but when I run the sample file it locks up after a few lines of code. I have to reboot just to get it unlocked. so i looked at the EMC debug and print file generated by the EMC. in the print file, well see for your self. and nowhere did i select pluto for anything during my fresh start. nor can i find the file it references, at least not where it says it is!

It is trying to run pluto_inch.ini somehow and that is a sample config not a stepconf wizard file. Did you delete the entire emc2 directory and any and all links on your desktop, then start a fresh Stepconf Wizard session and create a basic config?
