Incorrect, up until recently I was measuring directly from the cable nothing attached. I just got tired of plugging and unplugging.
I'm unable to get to the shop today, it's raining and my wheelchair gets stuck real easily. So I will get back at it tomorrow. weather permitting!
And I'll do all the suggestions then. Tthanks again for your patience, I know mine is stretched thin

Hi Submicro
Must not be but:
Some time ago I got crazy with non changing parport signals. Same HW running well before.
What I had done was swoppinf PCI slot.
At the end I played with interrupts in BIOS ... Hopp after a lot of trys everithing worked fine again.
I came to the conclusion that linux/EMC was not writing correctly to te parport modus registers......
