I haven't had any issues with 1khz servo thread on my Asrock J3355B.
Could it be the difference in the J3355 being a Dual core cpu @ 2.0Ghz and the J3455 being a Quad core @ 1.5Ghz ?
Here is Intel's page comparing the 3 CPUs

The Ethernet setup is not particularly complicated, you do need to setup a static IP address
on the host, but this is identical to x86 systems. The RPI4 is comparable speed wise with
J1900/J3455 systems but its Ethernet is not fast enough to run a 1 KHz servo thread
reliably. I will run a 500 Hz servo thread which is fine for most stepper motor lathe and mill
applications. The "smoothness" of the motion is not related to latency, as long as the servo
thread scheduling is always met with some margin (say no more than 1 ms latency on a 2 ms servo thread)

Ahhhh I see, my apologies........I think I should do some remedial comprehension, whilst I'm confined in inside.

Yesterday i had the opportunity to get a HP Compaq 8300 Elite SFF i5-3570, as mentioned by PCW. It was a very good choice, so it replaced the old GA-Z68AP-D3, which was a relict when parallel port was used. Now the latency is very low , and the machine runs fine. The only issue was, i had to go trough the collection of DP cables, to find one that can handle 1920x1200 resolution.

As far as i can recal, all Display Ports can handle much higher resolutions.
Even HDMI 1.1 can handle 1920X1200, but that is the limit. HDMI 1.4 can handle more.
The issue is with cheap cables not using all the lanes and bad isolation.

Its finally arrived but still waiting for the case. It took 6 days to arrive from China. I came with Win 10 enterprise I had forgot about that.
I stuck a SSD with Mr Beagle's mint on it, change the bios boot and hey presto.

Yes I have had to use that for a neighbour and put win 10 on it. It runs well with that.
I have just ordered one of these. www.seeedstudio.com/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864-p-4447.html lets see how it performs !
Damn you beat me to it. I posted about that little beastie the other day. Interested in to see how it goes.
I’ll have to pull out my collect of MB cos I remember getting some good results with some older athalon setups.

Use this to test latency as it looks to have gone out of the visible area:
latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000 --show
latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000 --show

Super.
I received mine a few days agoo and it needed about 6 weeks. And i am not ready to test lcnc on it. Just have fought two days to get arduino see the samd chip. I will finilize the windows part before i go linux.
I bought some m2 adapter/extender to pcie as i want to see if i can make this board running a test environement for 7i76e and via parport a 7i43...
Will be fun if i only had more time

That is much, much better.
Plug a 7i96 or 7i76E or 7i92 to it, lets see how that goes.
I leave Linuxcnc running with a big gcode file for two full days on to check if it drops the connection and usually while i am near i have to watch some youtube or read or copy something, just to live on the edge .... of loosing a connection !
