OOOOPS my bad
command should have been latency-histogram --nobase
Not that misspelt rubbish I post before
The servo period looks ok as run, it may get a bit better without the base thread.
As usual turn off as much power saving as possible and hyperthreading.
Is your drive a mechanical or sdd ?
A bit more RAM maybe of help with opening larger files.
A few guys have had luck with mini ITX boards with J series celerons. ATM I'm running an Asrock J3355B but testing the Odroid h2+ as a replacement.

It's HDD, spinny, spinny, and noisy too.
Let us know how you make out with the Odroid h2+. I've been running Rpi4 with bCNC grbl for a few years now and am looking to improve things. I'm spoiled by the lack of space and care you need with Rpi4, having a PC in with your gear is so much more cumbersome.
Cheers,
Tyler

So far after 3 iterations I got a workable install image.......I was having issue with DKMS & NIC driver, so I just dropped them in place manually.
Running the latency test looks promising.
The issue I have ATM is whilst I can hook to my MESA 7i92 the mill is awaiting bits from the US so I can finish the control box for the new spindle.
Thought I was getting there but my supplier sent the wrong AUX contact for my contactors, so waiting for that along with the DIN rail terminal blocks. Unlike the Northern Hemsiphere we Down Under have to buy a lot of stuff from OS so it takes some time.
Isn't it wonderful being spoiled by a lack of space ?

OH man! I just ordered an Odroid h2+. I do hope you'll share your iso with us! Pretty please!
Hell, I'll even send you a bottle of your favorite poison!
Cheers,
Tyler

Ok Tyler how's this.....
You already have it.
The ISO I linked to before is for both the Odroid H2+ & PC. The "special" bit is the driver for the 2.5Gb Realtek NIC. Apart from that it's just the same.

Oh sweet! Is the Realtek NIC driver already installed?
I didn't catch the H2 in the file name.
Awesome, can't wait to get the Odroid and report back!
Thanks so much.

Tyler,
I can get some of these pcs dirt cheap. So, would you mind running this on your dell 780 and put the ".hw" file in this thread ?
Oh, and for the odroid h2+ too, please?
Thanks a ton

That was with 2GB of RAM, adding another 2GB made it much better and usable.
For software stepping it needs an older RTAI kernel to work, new ones do not work on them, it has a nice latency so parallel port can be used.
For Mesa boards it will need at least 4GB of RAM to have usable latency with new Preempt-RT kernels, use the 4.9 as it has the best latency on it.

tommylight chimed it with the skinny on the Optiplex, 2GB more RAM and it should be dandy.
I'll be posting my progress with the Odroid h2+ once I recieve it.
I'll start with sir Beagle's latest iso.

Thanks for this senior tommylight. I'm going to take whack at setting up an Odroid and keep the Optiplex as a test (after adding to more GB RAM).
