To give an idea of what will help work out the IO. Using Rog's earlier photo's we get this the result below. A rule / scale in X and Y is the photo would also help scaling and stretching the images to get them to line up. This is going to be challenging... anyone remove solder mask of a board before? Being able to electrically trace this would also be beneficial.

If it is a dry film solder mask then it's likely polyethylene . You can try soaking it in xylene. If that doesn't loosen it then it might be an epoxy that will require some abrasive for removal.

We can just solder out the chip using soldering station and hot fan. Any repair shops can do that work. After all the tests chip can be soldered back with re-balling technique.

I borrowed a SMD rework station to remove the optos from the EC500. Not sure if I'm that ambitious to attempt it. All those caps on the back of the board... :-0

I've installed MCUEpreeso IDE and started to research what will be needed.

The NVEM/EC300 uses the same LAN8720A PHY as the earlier versions. The RT1050 examples use a MII example not RMII but I found this article:

community.nxp.com/t5/i-MX-RT-Knowledge-B...XRT1050/ta-p/1107482

I've only found one reference to a driver on an RT1020 site.

Do you think that you should start a new thread here on the forums for the EC300 with Remora if the NVEM is now dead?

Probably a good idea as this thread is getting quite long. Shame all the earlier work is "wasted" because of the chip shortages. I've shelved all work on the DMA stepgen as well.

Hi,

Is it not better to first finisch the nvem and the ec500 before to move to newer versions? There are a lot of people who have the old versions.

Not a complete waste. The STM32's will be back and look all the experience gained developing LCNC code on microcontrollers. This also serves as a template for other micros as you can already see that the networking is similar, how to organize IO and stepgens, etc etc.

The newer EC500's will have this different MCU aswell I'd imagine.
