I have updated the test branch with your latest version
forum.linuxcnc.org/21-axis/16426-changin...-gui?start=90#162637
Colour changes worked and stayed for the next run.
What is the purpose of the ticker?
I really don't like the X in the bottom corner, it is a bit unexpected (for me) to have an exit there. If you insist on having it then you should at least create a tooltip for it and maybe give it a warning colour like the ESTOP on the left. Actually I think you should get rid of it as there are already enough ways to exit.

On my touchscreen the exit button is a bit small on the top right so I have it bottom right.
With no Keyboard and mouse around input cntr-q/Q is not an option.
If you have another suggestion i will revise the position or solution.
maybe exit word instead?
Any other suggestions or revisions more than welcome, the numerous installs I have done with axis,
namely on gantry routers, users seem to request a return home and larger buttons.
Most generate g-code with a post processor so do not frequently read the g-code, hence the option Cntr-h
to hide the code pane. Cntr-g to show it again.
How many users have touchscreens, I wonder? It might be plausible to add a pop up input panel with a revised
keyboard for the MDI pane, any thoughts. Should it double as a touchy type interface as well?

It would be nice if the Control+h was a toggle rather than requiring both Control+h and Control+g

Ahh, that explains it. I think touchscreen is the only downfall of Axis. In that case I am not sure what the answer is but Exit would be better than Xtouchscreen

Clive, I can't believe this is still in my gmail after 10 years BUT:
Seeing you've now visited down under,
Before mastering Strine you need to pass our citizenship test. See attached....
Its quite an enlightening insight into Strine and Aussie Slang. But I'm sure it will be lost on non-residents of this great country
