I noticed that the bed is getting a little scored already, so I really need to add way wipers. But I think I might do a couple of non-lathe projects for the next couple of weeks.

Lol, at least you got an entertaining video out of it! The hide-under-a-laptop image was spot on, I could feel your pain!

Looking at the video frame-by-frame the problem seems to be that your ER collet chuck is made of rubber. I can see you came to the same conclusion in the follow-up video.

(For anyone who doesn't know: you can step youtube videos frame-by-frame by pausing and using the comma and dot keys, for backwards and forwards respectively. Same with mpv.)
