running 4.19.0.22-rt now and no spikes at all so far, so its def kernel related, i have also noted it is worse/triggered when moving windows on the screen, i suspect something interrelated to the i915 driver as in my case one thing in common is all 3 boxes i am using all use i915. 5.10 had issues on all my 3 boxes. yet to try 6.0. Setup's tested
HP Compaq Elite 8300 i5-3470
IMD150D Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU J1900
MF94 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU J3455

Update:- Running all night, no read.tmax spikes or packet errors so its seem 4.19.0.22-rt is stable reatlime wise and fixes the spurious error finishing read errors, I will try the kernel 6.x today report findings. Has any one tired reporting this to the kernel developers? Unsure how todo this.

4.19.0.22-rt still stable. For interest/completeness i have posed the scope plots of both 4.19 and 5.10 below same hardware and settings, scoping both the read.time and packet.errors. As can be seen the spikes in read.time cause packet.errors and enough of them and to you get a error finishing read. So far on 4.19 i have not seen 1 error or spike. I would be interested to see others who are running anything other than 4.19 to see if they hanging on the edge of failure or if there are other factors.

5.10 RT works for testing with a longer servo period and a longer watchdog, with normal values it does fail the connection.
For some reason the 4.19.0.21 is greeting me with kernel panic on that PC ! :)
About to go test the 4.19.0.22 later.
Pretty sure i have the 5.n.n working ok on some PC's, but will have to check that as my head is full of Mazak wires! :)

It would be great to see if you are getting read.time spikes and in fact the issue is there but its not bad enough to trigger an error finishing read, I had that on one of my test boxes, it would run but the spikes and packet errors where still there but not bad enough to trigger the error finishing read.

yeah, 4 series kernels do not work with Linux Mint 21, kernel panic with any 4.19 so far.
I will be installing the official ISO on this machine once i finish wiring and PyVCP setup.
No time to check other PC's for now.

With 5.10 on my Elite 800 G1, I get only rare spikes, maybe once ever couple of days, judging from
the tmax numbers. There is definitely video  interference but no huge spikes like you are getting.

No video

With video

I have added a total soft error count pin to hm2_eth as a debugging aid:

hm2_CARD.0.packet-error-total

Thats interesting, What spec is the Elite 800, is it one with discrete graphics? as there looks to be quite a lot of model options.

Its a Elite 800 G1 with a Intel 4570S (2.9 GHz) CPU and integrated Intel graphics

Strangely enough the 4.19 kernel has similar performance as 5.10 on the 800
but 4.19 is _much_ better on my 8300 (allowing 4 KHz servo threads)

Probably out of left field but was comparing notes off forum with another user who has used the Odroid H2+ like me. This was discontinued due to chip shortages but has now been replaced with the H3 and H3+
He pointed me to this post on the Odroid wiki demonstrating the kernel drivers are 15-30% slower than the native realtek driver. He said that he experinced following errors while jogging with the 5.10 kernel which was resolved after compiling the realtek 8125 driver!
wiki.odroid.com/odroid-h3/hardware/insta...net_driver_on_h3plus

I think its time to get a couple of Odroid H3 PC's. JUst not sure on the difference between the H3 and H3+ and if the different CPU is necesary for LCNC.
