The machine was bought knowing it will be Converted. I will bee doing 3-d artistic milling on it. There is no way to program on a conversation controller so it needs a retro. Plus the price afforded some swap out money

Although I do not know your machine, most controls allow both languages: conversational and plain Gcode. However I really do not know your machine/controller.

from what I could find on the net, The Brother control is pure conversational and while x-y move can be programmed, it is only at a fixed depth. It apparently does not use G code of any kind. The machine is really a drilling and tapping machine, with limited milling capabilities.I would still seriously running it some with the brother control, if only for tests, just to see how it behaves. My guess is it has encoders, japan was never really big on resolvers. Maybe Brother can suggest how to program it in what ever lauguauge they wrote the conversational cycles in. Good luck.

Brother does not support the machine at all anymore. The machine doesn't even have an rs-232 port. As for g code it is not available for this machine.

someone brought up linear scales to get by the resolvers, (still haven't run a scope on them). If I get a set of scales for the machine how would I integrate them in the system to by pass the resolvers. ???

Well, you wouldn't exactly bypass the resolvers. You would leave the resolvers in place to provide the feedback that the drives use, but use the scales as the feedback for a position loop in LinuxCNC.

I have never personally used any, so can't make any recommendations.
I also think that it is too early to start shopping for scales as we still don't know if the drive output quadrature pulses for the controller.

I found these in the manual. Is it the info you need for the resolvers
