EMC2 Crash on startup was created by mspyle
When I try to launch EMC2 I get an error and the program closes, if anyone knows how to fix it short of reinstalling it would be great.

I just got done installing the CNC upgrade package on my Sherline 5400 mill, and i am a new Linux user stumbling my way through figuring out how to use it.

Have you run the latency test?
If not you need to check that first and maybe edit the configuration to lower setttings.

Take a look here...
wiki.linuxcnc.org/emcinfo.pl?TroubleShooting

From your report...

RTAPI: ERROR: Unexpected realtime delay on task 1
This Message will only display once per session.
Run the Latency Test and resolve before continuing.

Unexpected realtime delay: check dmesg for details.

What was the result of the latency test?

I assume you didn't adjust your config to suit your latency...

I got EMC2 to load no problem last week before I got the CNC box and stepper motors in hooked it all up and it decided it did not want to behave after i hooked em up. Where do I go to change the config? I do not have the latency test results on this PC but they are saved on the Ubuntu machine as soon as I get on it tomorrow I will post em. Everything I am using is new to me here sorry about all the questions.

I assume you used one of the sample configs... if so run the stepper configuration wizard and from it run the latency test and let it run a while. Then use the results from it and plug the number in and see what base period it creates for you. Copy that to your config, I'm guessing in your ini there might be an entry for that.

If you used one of the sample configs which one did you use?

I used Sherline 4 axis inch sample, and that is the one that's crashing when I try to open it now to test everything.

Just to be clear you can run the config but get the error RTAPI: ERROR... in the lower right corner?

Open up the Sherline4Axis_inch.ini file and change

BASE_PERIOD = 50000

to

BASE_PERIOD = 100000

I have a fairly good latency and I got the RTAPI: ERROR when I ran the config until I changed the base period to 100000

When I try to open the Sherline sample file the whole program quits, I can open the stepper config no problem. I tried to open the .ini with gedit but it wont let me change anything on the file just view it.

How are you opening the sherline sample file and what program quits?

Lets back up a bit... did you create a local copy of the sherline config in /home/.../emc2/configs by starting EMC from the CNC menu and clicking on sample configs and picking the sherline config and saving the config to your local directory and this creates an icon to your desktop to start your config from?

If your mucking about in the files above your home directory you are in the wrong place.
