The Atom 525 might be better if you plan on using the parallel port as it is brought out to the rear panel and the 510 only has the header for the parallel port on the motherboard so you would have to find a cable to bring it out.

I am using the Sherline 4 axis driver box so unless I can use a USB to parallel cable or a parallel card I am probably going to go with the Atom 525, If i can use a USB to parallel cable or a card I would rather get something that fits in the gateway case after I knock the back panel out. On the Atom are you using the on board graphics or a card?

USB to parallel will not work with real time motion control.

PCI parallel cards are cheap and work.

The 510 and 525 have on board graphics only.

I'm looking at:

Motherboard
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121442
Ram
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148191

Know anything about this case?

I am going to try different video card drivers next, I tried them in 10.04 and that did not make any difference on the latency. I really want to use the hardware I already have but if its not possible I am buying parts.

That's the same motherboard I have but I think I used this system specific memory in the 525.

I used a different case to but that one looks good too.

I have had a couple of bad run-ins with Kingston thumb drives and ram (RMAd a thumb drive 5 times and then tossed it, Returned ram after it did not work twice and gave up) I prefer Crucial or Corsair but if it causes any problems I guess I will give it another shot.

If you do a little googling you can find the ones that are system specific for the D525 motherboard... I think there was a couple brands that had been certified to work.

Also if you don't need the tiny size of the 510/525 I have two Zotac's running EMC one in my Lathe and one down in the beer cave...

The smaller the he better the gateway case doesn't really fit where I have it so I am going to stick with the 525 and I will look around for different ram. On your 525 are you using 10.04 or 8.04 and what drivers for the video card? Sorry about all the questions I just want to make sure I have got everything I need ready for when I buy this.

10.04 and nothing special just popped in the LiveCD and sat back with a beer... then let the synaptic package manager update everything.
