I am not familiar with Pico Systems. So I hit my limit/ability of help.
I talked with tjamscad on the phone and had him comment out his encoder 4 lines that deal with linuxcnc. Encoder 4 deals with spindle feedback to the controller.
After commenting out the offending lines > Linuxcnc loaded. However he was unable to jog the machine in x or z axis without a following error. I would assume that the encoders are not getting back to the controller.
Either hardware; wiring is causing these problems imo.

# spindle feedback
net SpindleRevs motion.spindle-revs ppmc.0.encoder.04.position
net SpindleIndex motion.spindle-index-enable ppmc.0.encoder.04.index-enable
setp ppmc.0.encoder.04.scale -7200

At this time: My computer hardware is all orginal except a replacement hard drive. The hard drive was replaced because it was so hot you could not hold it.
My PPMC hardware is all orginal.
The error I am getting seems to be related to ppmc.0.encoder.04.position. Because of this being the only thing I can get to repeat I commented the following line out of my hal file.
# spindle feedback
#net SpindleRevs motion.spindle-revs ppmc.0.encoder.04.position
#net SpindleIndex motion.spindle-index-enable ppmc.0.encoder.04.index-enable
#setp ppmc.0.encoder.04.scale -7200
This will allow LinuxCNC to load but when the machine is powered on the drives and contactors go crazy. The also causes a joint 2 following error. That is my Z axis.

Can you please change the spindle encoder to 03 and report what happens.
It would be nice to also check if there is power going to encoders.

Here is dmesg after changing encoder to 03.
Where do I check for power?

I did, I don't see any debug information.
