A couple things:
The 7I74s RJ45 lights are not functional
All sserial cards use straight through Cat5E/Cat6 cables
The likely reason the 7I70/7I71 cards do not start is that they have not been enabled in the hal file
(since there are more than 8 sserial ports in the config there are 2 sserial ports, port_0 (3 7I77 channels only)
and port_1 (8 channels on 7I74) Port 1 must be specifically enabled in the hal file

So I have my 7i74 with 7i70 and 7i71, waiting toi receive my second 7i71.
I have:
hm2_5i25.0.7i70.1.0.input-00 - input-47
hm2_5i25.0.7i71.1.2.output-00 - output-47
When I add another 7i71 will it be hm2_5i25.0.7i71.2.1.input-00 - input-47 ?
or hm2_5i25.0.7i71.1.1.input-00 - input-47?
I would assume hm2_5i25.0.7i71.1.1.input-00 - input-47 because of the hm2_5i25.0.7i77.0.0.input-00 - input-31
So it would be board type (7i71).port on 5i25(1). port on card(0-8) , is this correct?
I have:

hm2_5i25.0.7i71.1.1.input-00 is possible (if a 7I71 was plugged into 7I74 channel 1)
hm2_5i25.0.7i71.2.x.input-00 is not possible on that particular firmware since you only have 2 sserial ports
(0 and 1, port_0 used for the 3x 7I77 channels and port_1 for the 8 7I74 channels )
its possible to have 3 ports (a config could be made so the 7I74 had 2 ports (1 and 2) each with 4 channels)
There is an alternate sserial device naming scheme that uses the last 4 digits of the sserial card
unit number for the unique part of the hal name. This scheme has the advantage that you car re-arrange
channels and ports and everything remains the same

OK thanks, that answers my question. As long as I dont move to a different port on the 7i74, they will always stay the same and I can live with this scheme...
Thanks

I prefer the alternative scheme.
You enable it in the "loadrt hostmot2" line in the HAL.
You enable it in the "loadrt hostmot2" line in the HAL.
loadrt hostmot2 use_serial_numbers=1

Then use the last four digits of the serial numbers on the cards instead of the 7i74 port numbers?
Whats the advantage beside being able to move from port to port without changing the hal?
I see it as a disadvantage because you have to type more characters...lol
I am going to try it though.

There are 3 RS422 channels on the 7i77? I thought there was only one.

Yes:
channel 0 = digital I/O
channel 1 = analog out
channel2 = expansion port (TB6)
