I doubt anything has changed in the driver between 2.7 and 2.8
It may be more likely that there's a bug with the use_serial_numbers option

Could be, I am pretty sure I didn't test that.

The simple answer for bevins is to just stop trying to use that option.

The more complicated answer for me is to try to fix that,

I think I would need a 5i24 config with a split 7i44 port to test with. But I guess that PCW is best placed to check if this is a real bug before making me a bitfile to fix it with.

Andy, I can give you access to my machine if you want if that helps.

How many ports are you using on the 7i74?

4 for SSI encoers ( i actually need 5, but i will replace the spindle encoder for an incremental one) and 2 SSerial for 7i70 and 7i71.
I can also do without 7i70 and 7i71 as there are enough inputs on the 7i77 but i am not sure how many outputs i will need, i am sure 16 is not enough as i would like to add some more signaling to the machine. And they make for a cleaner installation as the machine has all inputs in two cables and same for the outputs.....it is like tailor made for it, one cable per terminal block.

tommylight: its entirely possible to make a 5 SSI / 3 sserial config if you wanted to retain the absolute encoder on the spindle

bevens: I cannot duplicate the bug with use_serial_numbers.

Here (attachment) is a pin list from a system with use_serial_numbers=1 and 2 sserial devices
on port 0 (7I76 and 7I90) and 2 sserial devices on port 1 (7I87 and 7I73)

EDIT: I have included a normal (-nosn) pin list for comparison

AH!!

I am going to have a 7i70, 2-7i71 and a 7i84, plus a 7i77. I wont run out of I/O anytime soon. I will have 116 relays on this machine.

Thank you very much Peter, but you have done more than enough, i just do not want to bother you anymore.
P.S. If by any chance you get the sudden urge to make such a config, 6 SSI 2 SSerial would be nice. And a 2 meter tall blonde to go, please, thank you very much.
P.S. of the P.S
Tall blonde added to keep the ball rolling on the wishes. :) :) :)
