Just read the thread again, you are using parallel ports, and that is for sure interference from the spindle due to lack of shielding or proper grounding.

Machine has been running for quite sometime now, it may, MAY be possible that you are correct. However, with the previous versions, I never had this issue.. and my finger is quite fast hitting the ESC key ( or the emergency stop.. ) Never experienced this problem. With the latest install of LinuxCNC, I have been experiencing this issue, with no hardware changes in the last year ...

So, ok.. perhaps this thread can be terminated.. I will be very careful watching and documenting. If I experience this issue again, I hope to have some better, repeatable steps. I wish I knew which or where the logs were so I can post them as well. Already have two issues dealing with subroutines in the queue to be resolved, thought this might be seen by others.. so ... we'll just wait and see if I can document this better.

Thanks for all the posts.

Ok.. it happened yet again today. This time I was a bit more observant.

1: It was executing the following line

N150 G0 G90 X-.228 Y-3.9899

2: I hit the ESC button to stop it.. it still took out my wood. :-(

3: Hitting the PG-UP button didn't do anything , except .. I got the following error that I had not noted before

ERROR: Can't do that ( EMC_TASK_PLAN_RUN) in Auto mode with the interpreter waiting.

I also think I noted that the ESC key took the Machine power button to off???

After I toggled the Power Button on the Axis gui, the PG UP and all the other buttons seem to work.

So.. is this the expected behavior? I don't remember it doing this before this release, but I could be wrong...

That is gcode made for Mach3, right ?
I would advise not to use gcode made for mach as i am sure there are differences in what certain Gxx does.
And once more, ground your spindle, properly. And the electronics side.

Well, no... this was Gcode made for LinuxCNC Gcode .. not Mach3.

I have been running these codes for eons, and are standard GCODE's . If LinuxCNC stops supporting these, well.. I'll be ...

In question is not the Gcode, but the action of the ESC key. As an engineer and programmer for 53 years, I am very strict on grounding issues. Machine is well grounded. Shielded cables,... the ESC key is the question.

I have seen that kind of behaviour only on plasma arc start on machines that had lousy grounding or none at all, using parallel ports.
I have also seen something worse than that regarding ESC key on EdingCNC ( formerly USBCNC ), when hitting the ESC key it would say FIFO underrun and shut down completely !!! Always!

Did you check the keyboard properties, or the keycode, scancode of the esc key?

Before we go off on weird tangents, is anyone else running this version of LinuxCNC and can check that ESC only stops the program and does not turn the machine off?

I am pretty sure that it just stops the current G-code, but won't be near a LinuxCNC machine again until sunday evening at the earliest.

Since I am a user of LinuxCNC, not a programmer of it.. I have no idea how to do this check. I'd be happy to post whatever you want.. Just tell me the files and I'll post. Thanks. ( Other than some subroutines changes, I have not altered any LinuxCNC config file, except for one HAL file under the direction of andypugh. from the previous full release to this one. )

BTW: My CAM program is MasterCam X5, I haven't updated it in years. I did modify the post long time ago from driving my Tormach PCN1100 machine based on Mach 3 to the new Wood Router using LinuxCNC. If anyone has a true post file for MasterCam X5 to properly drive Gcode for LinuxCNC, I am more than happy to try it. Thanks.
