I picked up some relays and they had a socket for the diode and picked up some of them

The side with the plus goes on the positive coil supply? I tested it direct to the power supply and it closes wired that way.

I also got a cheap pwm generator to play with and it also worked on the controller.

At 20hz the motor starts and the duty cycle works from about 15 to 95%.

The red and brown are the 12 volts that would go to the treadmill panel and are powering the generator

Now we're cooking ! :)
Test also some higher frequency PWM, like 100 or 1000 Hz, check if you can notice any change in sound of the motor, it should sound much smoother. I would venture on the safe side a 5000 and on the "are you nuts" side 22000 to 25000.

Alternatively. if 20 Hz is OK, you could use a 7I96 isolated output driven by a software PWM generator running at the servo thread rate, and get full isolation of the control signal

i think i am going to try that. i have to get the motor mounted and make a pulley.

Which coil wire for the relay is best to run to the output? Ground or +12v

i set an output to turn on a relay for the driver power supply

net machine-is-on <= halui.machine.is-on
net machine-is-on => hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-03

it is not hooked up to the relay yet but i noticed the led on the board will blink once and stay on after i hit the machine on button.

the output for the spindle just turns on. is this something with the internals of linux cnc?

I don't see any blinking with Axis+halui, this may be GUI related

Spindle operation depends entirely on hal wiring

Ok, I'll try it with gmocappy and see if I get it.

This is what it does. I checked it with the multimeter and It closes and I tried another output . I think it's is something with software.

Which GUI?

As I said this does not happen with Axis in my tests

(also you should be able to plot this with halscope)
