I had the same problem with LinuxCNC 2.8.0 Debian 10 Buster PREEMPT-RT ISO
Ended up interrupting the automatic network configuration step and went ahead with the installation, that worked just fine and after reboot the network was working perfect!

Just tried to install 2.8 and it hung at "Configure Network".

I had no idea how to "interrupt the automatic network configuration step", but I rebooted to restart the install and when it said something about configuring IPv6 I pressed ESCAPE and the installation continued.

When the install completed I could browse the internet.

So Stefans method worked for me. A big thanks to Stefan and all others who chipped in to help.

Well id o not think there is a way of disabling IPV6 during installation,

There is.  I ran into the same issue as the OP (install hanging at "Configure the network" screen) when installing 2.8.2 (on a Dell Optiplex 980).  Here's what I did (props to the BunsenLab forum where someone posted what's in step 4):

1. at the LinuxCNC install media boot menu, press down arrow till "Graphical Install" highlighted

2. press Tab key

3. press left arrow key till cursor is on first "-" of "--- quiet"

4. type "ipv6.disable=1 " (there's a space at the end; don't include the quote marks)

5. move cursor back to end of line with right arrow key (not sure if this is really necessary) and press Enter key
