it ended up being that some of my cables were wired differently. I'm guessing dmm changed some things down the line.
but i think i just messed it all up trying to install this vistacnc pendant and I have no idea if an of it will work with probe basic.

I'm trying to set up a vistacnc ps-2 pendant. I had commented out a bunch of stuff in the vc-p2s.hal file and got linux to open. but of course that didn't work.
I uncomented it all and now get the error
./vc-p2s.hal:8: pin "halui.axis.0.pos-relative' does not exist.

Trying to read over Hal basics. but slow progress

I enabled pyvcp in pncconf and now linuxcnc opens. but i get error

"hm2/hm2_5i25.0: stepgen.00.maxvel is too big for current step timings & position-scale, clipping to max possible

hm2/hm2_5i25.0: stepgen.01.maxvel is too big for current step timings & position-scale, clipping to max possible

hm2/hm2_5i25.0: stepgen.02.maxvel is too big for current step timings & position-scale, clipping to max possible"

Those errors mean that you cannot move at the selected velocities
with the current step timings (step length and step space) and position
scale, so you must shorten your step timings or reduce your maximum
velocities (or change the scale)

I did this according to the settings in the dyn4 manual and changed it in pncconf. but now i am getting the same error as before.

./vc-p2s.hal:8: pin "halui.axis.0.pos-relative' does not exist.

You might want to put off the pendant setup until you have the basics
working (including homing)

Ok, I thought maybe I was skipping some stiff or doing something that will just end up getting overwritten in pncconf. I have max limits+home working but inverted at the moment and travel set very small so the machine cant easily crash. e-stop and probe work from the bob and I can hear a relay turning on when linuxcnc starts. hopefully that's the charge pump.

Not sure what else I should be doing to set things up other than maybe getting Probe Basic to work and entering tool offsets. any suggestions?

Yes, I got the dmm bob to work smoothly with the 6i25. Although some supplied dyn4 cables were different. so it created a bit of confusion. All corrected and working now.
Still no luck with the pendant. I tried following some examples on here of people who got it working with mesa cards and it seemed to make my machine move on power up and crash.
