Nothing.
Buy a parallel port header, that PC has a 26 pin header inside and a built in parallel port that works perfectly with LinuxCNC.
The add on you are trying to install is just not there at all, like it is not present or inserted, but that might be due to it being a "software port" and those do not work on Linux. Linux needs direct access to it to work.
The header is about 3 to 5 $.

So one of these should do the trick
www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-PLATE25F16...id=1623058784&sr=8-3
Should it be immediately recognised by linux , or will need to go though the terminal processes

First one is working fine, just need a few more inputs initially to be able to use the machines own panel for basic functions like jog, and start ( rather than having to look away at the screen and play with the mouse on fine settings )
I understand the comments wrt the benefits of mesa board but just to put a bit of context on this, the machine is here
Bought for under £400 as a lock down project and a couple of new drivers and a bob added, so even now not a "treasured " machine .
I have got it working on plain turning (some profiling), threading and have nearly mastered parting but the facility to use some of its own panel , and an additional index function ( I currently only have Index and A) would probably get me as far as i want to go with this .
I would then like to move on to a project which is less of a "toy"and this may get consigned to a corner of the shop.
I am therefore trying to save the budget for the next project, while using this a learning exercise (And I am certainly learning )
Thanks for your responses here !

As the topic is about installing a 2nd parallel port one would assume the first one is working ok.
Slightly off topic, with all the hassles with PCIE pp adapter cards, one does wonder whether a 7i92 is a better option. The cheaper PP cards seem to be non workers and the ones that do aren’t that much cheaper than a 7i92.

Suspect I will go for a Mesa 7i92 with a view to moving it forward to next project, (which will hopefully include a turret) but would like to see this working on 2 PPs before I go there. Gives me more options to decide whether to sell this or let it languish in the corner of the shop.
Had a look in at my motherboard and the only likely candidate 26 pin plug on there is marked "Serial 2" but it looks a bit small icw the plug on the PP header . Have ordered one anyway.
Will Linux see the port if it is plugged into the motherboard or will there be a procedure to follow ?
OT a mate has just landed a myford seven for £500 . Absolutely filthy after standing for 15 years unused in a busy workshop but came from a deceased model makers shop and if you can see through the grime looks nice.
I much prefer Boxford range but they are asking silly prices over here now.

But does a PP header connect to it and does it need a particular process or does linux see it automatically?
