Installing second parallel port

Ok!
So this thread does not really seem to be leading anywhere constructive .
The stepconfig process clearly allows for a configuration employing two parallel ports and I would like to go this way.

So what must I do to get my computer into a suitable configuration to allow me to do this.

I dont really need to be told what will not work, or that I need Mesa, ethernet joystick controller, or whatever ,
I do need to speak to those who have successfully installed and use two parallel ports , and can explain to me, preferably in words of one syllable how to add a second usable one to my computer.

Anyone out there who successfully uses this configuration and can help me ?

Ignoring our replies is not helping you, you have a built in parallel port on the PC, so take a picture of the board and upload it here. I had the same PC (several of them) and they all came with a header and work properly with NO installation of any drivers.
For add on cards, it is not listed on your result of cat/proc, so it is not seen by Linux, so try inserting it into another slot if possible and check again.

Yes as long as you have the correct slot for the card..

I purchased 5 of them used for £25. All 5 worked fine

Pic of my motherboard as requested Tommy

I have ordered a header but not sure if there is a suitable connector on the board. There is a 25 pin "serial 2 " port by the end of the long PCI slot but not sure if it is big enough for the header . I would happily order the card you suggest Clive but again unsure if it will fit either if my PCI slots . My own previous attempt was fitted into the shorter of the two slots but clearly was not visible to the system for whatever reason.
I will try it in the longer slot tomorrow.

I was not ignoring replies , just having some difficulty interpreting particularly the one liners .
Just to remind you folks I am a novice to linux , so what seems obvious to you may not be clear to me .
Please bear with me .

Greetings,

My meager offering.

The white slot on the right appears to be a PCI slot.

The white slot in the middle looks like a PCIe (PCI Express) slot.

The link you provided earlier is a PCIe1X board. I do not see any such slots in your photo. (It would look like the other two white ones only about 25mm long.)

Most aftermarket boards are made by a major manufacturer and they just put different stickers on them

Linux looks for the chip manufacturer as the operating system has files to configure it.

Try to source a PCI parallel port card locally, preferably used, so you can return it for a different brand if needed. Remember, it is the "CHIP" that Linux looks for.

Here is a link to a good graphic description of the various slots...
