Getting and keeping a config working right now (that requires master branch) I have found to be the hardest since I started using Linuxcnc and had to compile the kernel to get preempt_rt.
A soon as Linuxcnc gets out of this list ftp-master.debian.org/new.html
I'm adopting Debian 12 (testing branch)

They buy a commercial controller...Added it to the sources.list file and it worked.
WTF do the guys that don't know this stuff do? It's really stupid the gui wont take the repositories but it worked when I added them manually to the file.

I find it really easy, on my table which uses a Buildbot package I just do a sudo apt update and a sudo apt upgrade, on my test machines I do a git pull, make clean and make.

I just found the Buster ISO easy peasy. comes with the rt kernel, no compiling and once you get master its easy. I should have did this before.
Even has my usb wifi, no need to complie and mess with kernel modules.
Like Phil said. sudo apt-get update/upgrade

This is also an option:
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...rd-new-windows-users
Pretty step by step and painless.
The OS might be a bit more user friendly for your customers than the Debian 10 iso

I tried MX and couldnt get wifi kernel module to work properly.
This QTPlasmaC machine is being used by the customer now and I might upgrade it to debian buster cause at least the wifi is working on buster out of the box.

I think it is MX 21 that is loaded.

I had this problem too. So I reverted to Mint 19.3 which is what I've always used then it got broken becasue all of a sudden master wanted a later version of Python which I could not resolve. I wanted to steer clear of Buster because at that time it installed python 2 & python 3. By going to Bullseye, python2 was gone. The install went super smooth, bit like Bevin's 17 minutes, but then some things changed which threw some roadblocks out. But finding a few bugs and getting them fixed for the next guy is part of the game.I tried MX and couldnt get wifi kernel module to work properly.
