I read in a manual that if one are using Wellturn then switch 1,2 and 3 sholud be down and number 4 up. I tried this setup but there was no difference.
After that I put all back into the lower position. In your thread from 2013 you wrote that all dip switches should be in rhe lower position so I think that they should.
When I push the E-stop at the machine nothing changes in LinuxCNC. After installing a PSI card, do I have to enable it anyware in the operating system? Asking because I am new to Linux.

What is a psi card?
It needs a normal printer port card (parallel port card)
Does linuxcnc scold you when you launch it saying there isn't a parallel port found?

Sorry, I did not mean PSI, I meant PCI. A PCI to parallel port card. Linux does not say that there is no parallel port at launch, no error messages at all.
I found an app, I think it was called hardware check (or similar), a bit like "Device Manager" in Windows. In "hardware check" the parallel port is listed as a device but nothing under "printers". I do not know if the lathe should appear under listed printers but it does not.

If you have linuxcnc up and running and spin the spindle by hand - does the rpm show?

No it does not, I tried to spin the spindle by hand and after that by turning the spindle power on but the rpm in LinuxCNC does not indicate anything at all.
In the lower left corner of the LinuxCNC window there is an on/off-indication but it does not change when I power of the lathe (actually, I do not know if it should change but it does not).I have attached a picture that is taken with the spindle motor running.

What cable are you using to connect the computer to the lathe?

I was thinking that if the parallel port wasn't getting detected by linuxcnc - you would be getting this error.. (unless the config was changed)
